Redemption Part 7 Transcription
Friends, I’m so glad that you tuned in today. And we’re talking about righteousness and redemption. Redemption is the result of the gospel, and righteousness is the condition of the gospel. And when you begin to understand that you are the righteousness of God in Christ, and that you have been redeemed from every curse, it’s gonna completely change how you live your life. So, open your heart and receive God’s good work today, blessings. Friends, we’re so glad that we have you here today. We’re sharing about redemption. What does it mean to be redeemed here?
To be bought back, to be purchased and liberated.
Liberated. Praise God. We have been free. What are we free from?
Free from a lot of things. Free from the curse of the law. Free from sin, free from destruction.
Praise God. So, we talked about this yesterday. The penalty for sin has been paid. But not only has the penalty for sin been paid, the power of sin has been broken. Sin no longer has dominion over us. What a marvelous aspect of the gospel. And thank God sin doesn’t have dominion over us. You know, and this is really a result of the new covenant and what Jesus did with his blood. So, we began yesterday, we talked about Ephesians, chapter one, verse seven. In Christ, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace. We talked about Galatians three 13, that Christ has purchased us, has redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for us. And when Jesus took the curse, what did he take?
He took sickness on himself. He took sin. That said, the Bible says that he who knew no sin was made sin that we might be made the righteousness.
So, he became a sin offering force. He took sickness. He took sin. What else did he take?
He took poverty.
Jesus took poverty.
Though he was rich,: for our sakes, he became poor.
Second Corinthians 8:9. You know that word rich means he had ultimate wealth. Jesus was in the beginning with the Father, creating everything Lord of heaven. And yet he came to earth. Any condition on earth would be considered poor with where he came from. But when that word poor is used, it means absolute poverty as a beggar. And it’s actually talking about Christ on the cross.
He took death upon himself first too.
Yeah, he took sickness. He took poverty, he took death. He took anxiety.
Wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our inequities. The chastisement for our peace.
Was upon him.
Was upon him.
And by his stripes we were healed. Isaiah 53, verse 5. What a beautiful picture of redemption in Isaiah 53, about 6 to 700 years before Christ, Isaiah prophesize of Jesus on the cross, the man of sorrows. And he begins with who has believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? Do you know what? If you’re gonna seek Jesus, the arm of the Lord revealed in your life, you gotta believe the word. You gotta believe the gospel. You gotta believe the good message of Jesus. Praise God. What a good message. You know that he took our sin, he took our sickness, he took our anxiety, and Jesus took our poverty. Those four things are rock solid in the gospel. And that is redemption. He freed us from those things. And when you begin to understand that, you say, well, I know a lot of people sick. Well, praise God. Start believing the gospel. Start believing the word. Amen. I tell you what, I’m a lot healthier. I’d probably be dead if I didn’t have the gospel, if I didn’t believe the gospel. Amen. It’s not like I never struggle, never have any challenges with these things. But I keep believing God. I keep believing the promises of God. Thank God I heard the full gospel preach. Do you know when I was only 14 years old and I’d been safe since I was eight. I’d already been safe for six years. We grew up in a traditional church. Maybe God will, maybe God won’t. You don’t ever know about God pull the lever. If you get three jacks, maybe God will show up and help you. But that’s like crazy. You know, Aaron, you sat in a church that had some great teaching for, you know, on faith, but it also had a lot of teaching on sovereignty. And I believe that God’s sovereign, but I believe he acts sovereignly according to his word, and is promising God’s not gonna do anything as far as that’s against his promise. And people have this teaching and it’s ridiculous. They think we’re like little puppets and God manipulates us. And you know, the Bible has a lot about free will and about choice. And you know, God said, I set before you this day, you know, life and death, blessing and cursing. Choose life that you and your seed may live. What comes with life, blessing . And so, choosing life is choosing Jesus, choosing the promise. I’ve chosen to believe what God says about me. I’ve chosen to believe the promises of God are true. I’ve chosen to believe the scripture, praise God. And listen, my life is a lot better.
Well, something that I’ve observed as a pastor now, I’m a pastor nearly as long as my father has. I know you’ve been a ministry for close to 35 years.
[Pastor Lawson] Yeah.
Now I’ve been a pastor for seven years. But just what I’ve observed is that you are always 100% of the time better off trusting God, trusting his promises than not.
[Pastor Lawson] Yes.
Every single good thing that God has promised you through Jesus in the word of God, you are better off believing it and trusting in it than not doing so.
[Pastor Lawson] Yeah.
And even when thing, when bad things happen, maybe in your life to someone you love, that you don’t quite understand, you’re always better off trusting God than turning away from God.
Yeah. And this is the thing, we don’t always know where another person is in their will. Right and our will is a very powerful thing. And God will not override our will. He gives us the power to choose. And if God’s not going to override our will as believers, then you know, you know, it’s God’s will for every, here’s an example for everyone to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. The Bible says that verse Timothy chapter two, but is everyone saved?
[Pastor Aaron] No.
Has everyone come to a knowledge of the truth?
[Pastor Aaron] No.
Because you have to choose, right? Jesus, you have to choose the gospel. You have to choose life. You have to choose blessing. You have to choose right to come to believe the truth. I’ve chosen to believe the word of God, the promises of God. All the promises of God in Christ are yes and amen. It’s the Lord of God by us. But some people aren’t choosing that. And you don’t always know where another person’s will is. And I’ve known of people who preach a lot of things that we preaching at that, you know, they died young or whatever. And listen, I am putting no condemnation on anyone. Everybody has different challenges that they are facing. But at the same point in time, you find out after certain individuals died, well, they were telling people around them. They really, they were preaching something, but they really didn’t believe it. And they were really telling people they’re ready to go. My own dad, you know, 40 years old, went to see Jesus. And he told my mother two weeks before he died, he said, listen, I’m tired of living. I’m tired of the fight. I’m ready to go. If you would’ve looked at my dad, you would think he’s as healthy as I am sitting right here right now. But you know what? My dad made a choice of his will and your will is a very powerful thing.
Well, I know after your father passed away, you and your mom, my grandma, you know, just decide you’re gonna live for God and keep trusting God. You know, you made a choice.
I made that decision decision right there.
You both did. You both made a decision that we’re gonna keep living for God, trusting God.
Serving God.
Believing in his goodness, believing his promises and,
Yeah.
Both of you are immensely better off for making that choice than having,
Yes.
To choose the opposite.
It’s terrible when somebody blames God for something like this. Do you know most people who claim to be atheists, do you know there are no true atheists? The Bible says that in Romans one 20 and 21, that every created being knows they have a creator. And you know, it wasn’t very long ago, Aaron, they had a football game and a man basically had a heart attack, died on the field. And both teams, every person on both teams kneeled down on the field and prayed. And yet, just a few years ago, you know, we had some Christians that were bound down and prey on the football field and people were criticizing them for it. But when that man’s life was in jeopardy, every person on both teams bowed their knee. You know, the Bible says that every tongue will confess in it, you know, and every knee will bow, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.
I heard a great prophecy actually for the church as a whole here in America for 2023, is from an evangelist named JD Shuttlesworth. And he’s very connected to Rodney Howard Brown.
[Pastor Lawson] Wow.
But and he actually started a church as well in the Pittsburgh area. And he has like Jesse plans coming.
[Pastor Lawson] Oh, great.
And Rodney Howard Brown. So, he’s a very, very strong faith evangelist. But he had a proxy for the year 2023 for the church. That would be a year of rest for the church.
[Pastor Lawson] Yes.
Just like we wanna, like the last few years have been a lot of hard work in the church business, you know, just to keep your doors open.
Right.
You know, we had to have the discussion, like, we might go to jail for even just opening our doors which is,
Yeah.
Crazy to think in America, you know?
Yeah .
And Colorado Springs, that we have.
We had that discussion. We opened the doors.
But I already see that, you know, just that prayer is being more public and you know, I think it’s gonna be a great year for the church.
Praise God. That’s exciting.
Yeah.
Well, you know, God is so good, and his word is so true. And we thank God for all the wonderful things that he’s done for us, you know, in the person of Jesus. But we have been redeemed. And if we’re gonna walk in the reality of our redemption, if we’re gonna walk in these promises, it comes down to a point that we have to believe the gospel. And if you don’t believe it, you’re not gonna receive it. And you know, we talked last week about the penalty for sin has been paid, the blood has already been shed for all of humanity sin, past, present, and future. And the sin of the world was paid for, my sin was paid for over 2000 years before I was born, or, you know, about 2000 years. I had to believe that to receive it. And so, God didn’t override my will. And in the same way that I need to believe for forgiveness to sin, I should believe for the promises. And I know some people have heard these same promises that I did, and they’re not doing near as well as me. I know some people, the same meetings that I was in 1978 when I was just 14 years old, when I got baptized in the Holy Spirit and began to understand the full gospel. And they just, they haven’t, they really haven’t believed them for their self. And it’s important that you believe this, that you believe this promise, that you believe this word for yourself, that you believe in redemption.
Well, you’re consistent in it too.
[Pastor Lawson] Yes.
You know, a life of faith isn’t just this emotional rollercoaster, you know, great people of faith, people who I have observed that are great people of faith, they’re incredibly consistent.
Yeah, I just had an evangelist that comes here to church. He has his own ministries, traveled for years. He’s been with some of the greatest, you know, teachers and pastors and leaders, you know, in his day over the years. He’s a little older now, but a great man of God that he told me the other day, Lawson, I believe, and Barbara speaking to mom, and we were with him and his wife. We believe that one reason that you are so blessed in the church is you are so consistent and you’re very consistent as pastors. You’re very consistent in your lifestyle. You’re very consistent in your message. You know, and the Bible actually says this, and he gave me this word from Hebrews 10, verse 35, that says, you need to have enough patience. That after you’ve done the will of God, you might receive the promise. And he said that word for patience not only means patience, but it also means consistent. And he said, you and Barbara are some of the most consistent people I’ve ever seen. And we just keep going. Praise God. We just keep walking. Amen. We keep believing. We never quit believing God. Now, there are challenges. They’re difficulties, there are problems. But you know, that doesn’t mean the the word of God is still true. The promise of God is still true. Jesus is still on the throne. He’s still Lord. And so, we’re gonna keep believing the promises of God no matter what all the promises of God in Christ are. Yes and amen to the glory of God by us. In other words, when God sent Jesus the cross, he said yes. And when we believe the gospel, we’re saying amen. And if you wanna see redemption working in your life full scale, it’s important for you to begin to believe these promises. And so, not only have we been redeemed from hell, the penalty for sin has been paid glory to God. We’ve been redeemed, hallelujah from the results that the power of sin has been broken. And Jesus broke the power of sin in his death, praise God by his blood. Let’s read in Hebrews chapter nine. Let’s go to this today in Hebrews chapter nine. Let’s read verse, we will start in verse 11. And we’ll go on down through verse 14 right now. He says, but Christ become a high priest of good things to come. There’s good things available to us in the gospel. He says, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, talking about his body not made with hands. That is to say not of this building. So, we have a better, you know, sacrifice the blood of Jesus. We have a better tabernacle, the body of Jesus. He says, neither by the blood of goats and calves, these Old Testament sacrifices, but by his own blood, he entered once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption for us. So, Jesus already purchased, what does that say? Eternal redemption. Now that’s kind of hard for the natural mind to grasp. He says, for if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, verse 13, sanctified to the purifying of the flesh. This Old Testament sacrifices dealt with the physical man. They dealt with the flesh. They dealt with the outward man. How much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal spirit, offered himself without spot to God per your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Now, I think, you know, he’s talking about those Old Testament sacrifices. You know, they dealt with the physical man, they dealt with the outward man. But he says these New Testament sacrifices, this blood that Jesus should purges our consciousness from dead works. I think that’s talking about legalism, about law keeping, about our own performance to make a servant of the living God. And we serve God from the spirit. And it’s really not about our performance, it’s about the performance of Jesus. Jesus performed well. So, the penalty for sin has been paid and the power of sin has been broken. We’re gonna take a short break. We’re gonna come back right after this, and we’re gonna continue to talk about the power of sin is broken. And then we may get into the fact that, you know, promises have already been paid for, glory to God. You don’t have to do anything to pay for. They’re already paid for. Jesus already finished the work. Praise God, will be right back. Bless him. Friends, I’m so glad you’ve been watching. Today we’ve been teaching on the subject of redemption and who we are in Christ. This is some of my best teaching. In fact, I got a revelation of this over 40 years ago in Andrew Womack’s meetings when I was just a child. And it revolutionized my life. And I believe if you get a revelation of who you are in Christ and what happened in the death bear on resurrection of Jesus, it will literally transform your life. And so, we have a lot of great teaching on redemption, what Jesus did for us in his death, bear on resurrection and who we are in Christ. I encourage you to get this teaching. I believe just like it transformed my life, it will transform your life. So get on the internet, give us a call. We’d love to hear from you. Thank you so much. And God bless you richly as you love His word. First place. Friends, I’m so glad that you stayed with us. We’ve been talking about redemption, praise God that we have been purchased by the blood. I’m so glad that I got saved when I was only eight years old. I’m so glad that I got baptized in the Holy Spirit when I was 14, began to understand who I was in Christ and God on fire for Jesus. It just saved me a life of tragedy. And based enough challenges and difficulties with even with all that. But praise God, it just saved me out. A lot of things people got involved in, I just didn’t get involved in. God is so good. Praise God. Thank God for redemption.
Life with Jesus is better than the alternative.
Amen. Doesn’t laugh without.
Yeah. And I love that the Bible talks about eternal redemption, you know?
Yeah.
Because we have Jesus, we have eternity with him in heaven. You know, my son, I have a nine-year-old son, and he was playing games online with one of his friends. And this is the week of a Christmas Eve here at church. We put on a big Christmas Eve production and we had rehearsals every night for a week. And his friend had a big part in the production. And she was kind of complaining. I heard her over the speaker phone that I had to be at church, you know, five nights in a row this week. And I said out loud with Fisher that I’m like, I said, well, that’s better than being in hell five nights in a row.
Woo.
So Jesus, Fisher thought it was hilarious. My son was cracking up.
And glory to God, we don’t want to go to hell. Think about.
No, my son loves coming to church too. He actually didn’t have to be here every night, but he came along. ‘Cause he wanted to be where the action was.
He loves people.
Yeah. He loves people. And but he thought it was really funny that he thought, yeah, heaven is better than hell, so,
Amen.
Eternal redemption. Yeah.
Thank God. Amen. And you know, sometimes, you know, we don’t think about just that aspect of it, but we’re on our way to heaven in fact, we’re citizens of heaven on loan to the earth from God. And that’s part of redemption. Our conversation is from heaven. Philippians chapter three, verse 20 and 21 says, from where we look for the Savior, Christ Jesus, the Lord who when he comes, will change our vile body. That it may be fashioned according to his glorious body, the working wherewith he is able to subdue all things to himself. Praise God. Jesus is coming again. And praise God when he comes, we’re gonna get a glorified body. That’s what we call full circle. Praise God. In fact, we’ve been talking about how Jesus came to buy us back from everything that Adam lost. But he’s not all they take buy us back from that. He’s given us more because the first man, Adam, when you look at this in first Corinthians 15, he was made a living soul in the garden. So, I believe that’s why Adam sinned, because he was living out of his soul, his mind, his will and a mission and emotions. And sin is very emotional. It’s also stupid. But the last Adam, Jesus was made a life giving spirit. So, when you think about it in eternity, when this redemption comes full circle, and we’re in Revelation 22 at the throne of God, the river of life, the tree of life. And it says in verse three, there shall be no more curse. But not only then, we’re not gonna be living souls just like the first Adam. We’re gonna have a life giving spirit, a quickening spirit. Hallelujah. That’s marvelous, isn’t it? That we’re gonna live in the presence of God forever. Amen. And you know, we’ve been, we talked earlier in the broadcast yesterday about that we’ve been redeemed from the curse of the law. And we talked about we’ve been redeemed from poverty, from sickness, from slavery to sin, from spiritual death. And the last enemy that will be put under our feet is physical death. But some people don’t believe the promises. You know, they don’t really believe in those things, but I believe them and they’re working in my life.
Amen.
Amen. But not only that, you know, Jesus redeems us from every curse. Praise God. Every curse has been broken, every promise has been secured. And not only did the blood pay the penalty for sin, which we see in Hebrews chapter nine, verse 6 through verse 12, we see the power of sin has been broken. And we’re gonna continue to talk about the power of sin has been broken. We could read in Romans chapter six, Aaron, why don’t you read Romans chapter 6, verse 12 through verse 14. Romans 6, 12 through 14. It’s talking about that we’ve received a gift of righteousness, right? And, and we’ve been brought into the reign of righteousness. So, we left the reign of sin and death came in into the reign of righteousness and grace, Romans 5:17. But how do we live as those who’ve come out of that? And he tells us in Roman 6 that we are free from sin. And he says, you’re dead to it, you’re free from it. But he says right here in verse 12 to verse 14, you have authority over it. So, read that
It says, therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead. And your members as instruments of righteousness to God for sin shall not have dominion over you. For you are not under the law, but under grace.
So, we have authority over sin. And he’s saying, don’t let sin reign you. Take authority over it. He says, don’t yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness. We have a choice to make about it that leads in to sin. But ye surrender yourselves to God. Surrender your life to God. Surrender yourselves to God. He says, as those who are alive from the dead and your members of instruments of righteousness, we are instruments of righteousness. We are in right standing with God. He says, for sin shall not have dominion over you. Sin no longer has dominion over us because we’re not under the law. But under grace, thank God, the grace of God. You know, we’ve been talking about the blood, paid the price for our forgiveness. The penalty of sin has been broken. The power, you know, the penalty for sins paid, the power of sin is broken. And it’s the blood of Jesus that broke the power of sin in our life. The grace of God. He said, you’re not under sin, under the law, but under grace. The law is actually the strength of sin. People who get legalistic, sin just gets a hold of them and it’ll affect you in a very negative way. You know, but the power, you know, we’ve heard about this. We’ve heard you don’t wanna sin because sin will what take you farther than you want to go, keep you you longer and you wanna stay, cost you more than you wanna pay. I’m telling you, legalism will take you places you don’t want to go. It’ll keep you where you don’t want to stay. And it’ll cost you more than you want to pay.
When someone gets legalistic towards other people too, it causes a lot of strife and,
Oh, it’s terrible.
And bitterness in it and,
We just need stay outta that stuff.
It’s not good.
So, no, it’s unhealthy. You know, if people, your brother Peter said this, you know, when he was, after he was married for two or three years, they moved back from Canada to California and they were going to a big evangelical church and they made him over a small group of young adults. He said, daddy, it’s amazing how many people read the Bible, but don’t know what it says. And they don’t live like it’s true. You know, we need to read this Bible. Praise God. If you look at my Bible, you can tell I read the thing. Oh word. You know my marker. I’ve never had this happen. My marker fell out the other day. This Bible, I’ve had it five or six years. I’ve read it through and through and through. And you know, usually these pages in the, you know, Romans and Ephesians, Galatians, these pages get war through where you can’t even see some of the words. But praise God, you need to not only say that you’re a believer, but you need to act like the scripture’s true and it’ll change your life. Aaron pray before we go on.
No, I just thank of God so much for everyone watching today. Lord, I think that you have redeemed them through the power of your blood.
