Romans: The Revelation of Righteousness Part 1 Transcript
Praise the Lord friends. I am so glad that you are watching today. That you’re connected with us. I have my son Aaron here today, and we’re gonna be beginning a brand new series on the Book of Romans, the Revelation of Righteousness. And when you get a revelation of righteousness, it will revolutionize your life. So you wanna open your heart and receive the good word of God today. Thanks so much for tuning, blessings. Today we’re sharing on Romans, the Revelation of Righteousness. This is actually one of my favorite teachings, and I’ve asked my son Aaron today, if he’ll be sharing with us. So we’re gonna begin today in Romans chapter one. And it’s talking about the gospel. So we’re gonna begin right in verse one where it says, “Paul a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, which he promised before by his prophets in the holy scriptures concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was made of the seed of David according to flesh.” So plain and simple, the gospel is the message of Jesus and Paul brings that out. Where servants of Christ we’re separated the gospel and we’re talking about God’s Son Jesus Christ, the seed of David, the Messiah. And thank God Jesus is the Savior of the world. I just thank God for Jesus. And I thank God for what He’s done. He goes on in verse four and says that He’s declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead. Now here’s a great thing. Why couldn’t Satan? Why couldn’t the grave keep Jesus when He died? Well it’s because it had no right. Because Jesus never sinned. So ultimately all the religious forces in the world, the enemy thought they won the battle when Jesus was crucified and they ultimately played into God’s hand because this was God’s plan from the beginning, Jesus was taking our sin, taking the sin of the world, but He as the righteous one had done no sin. And so when He went to the grave, He conquered the enemy. He spoiled principality in power. Colossians chapter two verse 15 says and made a show of them openly triumphing over them in it. Praise God. Jesus declares in Revelation chapter one verse 18, after He is raised from the dead, “I am He who lives and was dead. Behold I have the keys of hell and death and I am alive forevermore.” Amen. So the gospel is the message of Jesus. Christ died for our sins. He was buried. He was raised from the dead and Jesus Christ is Lord. Now he says in verse five, “By whom, by Jesus, we have received grace in apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name among whom you’re also the called of Jesus Christ, to all who be in Rome beloved of God, called to be saints.” So God has called us to be saints. He says, “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” He says, “First I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all that your faith has spoken of throughout the whole world for God is my witness whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son.” Now here’s how we serve God. We serve God in the spirit. He says that without seizing I make mention of you always in my prayer making request if by any means, now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come to you, for I long to see you.” So this shows the heart of a true apostle. He says, “I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gifts to the end that you may be established.” So the way people are established, is they are established through the gifts of God. And we have all these different gifts. We have apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors, and teachers. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:11, and then we have all the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. And it’s through the gifts that God, that Jesus has given to the church, that the Holy Spirit’s given to the church, that we can see the body of Christ established.
I like that he said he wanted to impart to them a spiritual gift and be there in person for that. There is somethings that only happen when you come together, when you spend quality time, maybe a certain length of time with people, with mentors, some things aren’t just given by a shadow being cast on people. Sometimes you need to spend time with someone, develop a relationship in a… I like what he talks about being encouraged by our mutual faith together. Paul really wanted to spend time with these believers so he could invest in them.
Praise God. And so God made the greatest investment when He sent Jesus, Jesus died and rose again, and then sent the Holy Spirit, God the Father and Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the Earth. What a tremendous investment He’s made in the body of Christ. But I like what you’re saying that Paul wanted to spend time with these people, that he might make an investment really of the Spirit, of the spiritual gifts, of the things of God in their lives. And like you say, somethings they’re established true relationship. And inevitably in the very last chapter of Romans, Roman 16 Paul talks about all these different relationships and different aspects of relationships and how that helped him to accomplish what God called him to do. And we see that working with Paul and Timothy, we see that working in the Old Testament with Elijah and Elisha, with Moses and Joshua, we see that same thing when you build relationships that there are things that are passed on through relationships. So I thank God for the relationship that we have with God through Christ, but relationships God has given us through the years. I thank God for the relationship that I’ve had with Andrew Wommack over the years. And Andrew actually teach the Book of Romans in Andrew’s Bible School, the Revelation of Righteousness in Charis Bible College. And I thank God for that relationship, but really the one who taught me these things about righteousness is Andrew Wommack. I thank God for Andrew Wommack. I thank God for Lester Sumrall who invested in me and these men of God who’ve invested in my life. My pastor that invested in me when I first started out in the gospel, Pastor Kenny Davis in the mark Colorado. And I know God’s given you different relationships through the years.
Yeah. I love what you’re saying about righteousness, how you’re gonna really talk about righteousness and the gospel of Jesus. What He’s done with righteousness for us is radically different than any other way of thinking out there in the world. Any other religion, Jesus gave us righteousness. It is completely gifted to us. There is no other religion. There is no other philosophy out there where you can be given righteousness. You have to earn it. You have to do steps. You have to do certain things, but this is radically different, completely, just radically different. And it’s a free gift through Jesus. And I like that Paul brings out the power. He talks about the resurrection right off the bat. The resurrection is the power of God. The gospel is not a powerless thing. It’s not just words. It is the power of God that it is full of resurrection power. A lot of people understand that Christ died for us. He paid the penalty for our sin, but they leave off the resurrection side of the gospel, which is the power of God. It’s the empowering side of grace. It’s the empowering side of righteousness. If Paul had a minister with the power of God, with resurrection power of God, he needed that resurrection power in his life and his ministry. We still need it today.
Paul actually said this in 1 Corinthians 2:4 and verse five. He said, “When I came to you, my speech in my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” So thank God for the power. And he says, right here, we’ll get into this, which is really the heart of the message in Romans chapter one, he says in verse 16, “I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. The good message of Jesus.” The gospel of what Jesus did for us in His death, burial and resurrection. He says, “For it is the power of God the salvation, to everyone who believes it.” And like you’re saying in all these other religions, all other religions are man’s attempt to reach to God. It’s man doing all these things. In Christianity, Christ did all the doing. It was God reaching out to men and Christ did everything. He came to the Earth, He lived sinless. He lived holy. He lived perfect. He lived pure. He died on the cross for our sins and then God raised Him from the dead. And now all we have to do is believe that to receive it. And when Jesus was raised from the dead, then He with the father sent the Holy Spirit. And now the Spirit, the same spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead, lives in us as believers. And again, it’s not something that we do. I love what you’re saying to, and Romans really establishes that all through the first 11 chapters especially, that there’s nothing that we do to deserve this, so on and so forth, but it is a free gift. Righteousness is a free gift to everyone who believes Jesus, praise God. Now, if we jump on down in verse 12, he says, he goes on. He says in verse 11, “I may impart to you some spiritual gift to the end that you may be established. That is that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith, both of you and me. Now I would not have you to be ignorant brethren that oftentimes I purpose to come to you, that I might have some fruit among you also even as other Gentiles.” And then in verse 14, 15 and 16, he talks about three key decisions that he made to live his life. He says in verse 14, “I’m a debtor, both to the Greeks and the Barbarians, both to the wise and to the unwise.” We have so many people today that live in this world that think everybody owes them something.
Entitlement mentality.
Exactly. And that will take you nowhere. That will accomplish nothing in your life. It is not a road to victory. And so Paul said, I made this decision to live my life as a debtor. He makes a statement in 1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20, he says, “I’m bought with the price. Therefore I’m gonna glorify God in my body and my spirit, which are God’s.” Not only is our spirit, but our body is God’s. And we are bought with the price, the highest price that could be paid. The price of the blood of Jesus. So he says, “I’m a debtor.” So that’s a key decision he made to live like that. Like I own my life. I understand that I have different things that I plan on paying my house payment, different things every month, so on and so forth. And so he says, and then he says in verse 15. “So as much as it’s in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.” Paul said, “I wanna preach the gospel everywhere I go.” It’s amazing when he got saved, he immediately begin to preach the faith that he once destroyed. And he immediately began to tell people about Jesus, about how Jesus saved him and Jesus changed him. And He’ll do that for everybody. So if you wanna preach the gospel, get ready. Hallelujah. And then he says in verse 16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it’s the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes it.” We’re not ashamed of the gospel. I’m not ashamed of Jesus. I’m not ashamed of the Holy Spirit. I’m not ashamed of the word of God. So many people are compromising the word, because they’re so concerned about what everybody else thinks. We ought be more concerned about what God thinks and about what Christ thinks and about what the Holy Spirit thinks.
Amen. I like something that our friend Mark Hankins says. He says, “The only part of the gospel that will work for you, is the part that you’re not ashamed of.”
Yeah. Hallelujah. And Mark boldly proclaim some of the same things that we proclaim and it’s working in his life in a tremendous, tremendous way. And one thing for instance I get criticized about is preaching that God wants to prosper you. And I see those promises all over the scripture, Psalm 35:27, third John two, Philippians 4:19. I mean just literally all over the scripture, Deuteronomy 8:18, Psalm 112:1-4, Psalm 115:9-16, there are multitudes of promises in the scriptures that God wants to prosper His people. And yet we get so much flack and just something happened recently. I have a man who’s my family. He’s a great man. He’s built literally 100s of churches in India. And I came by giving him a little bit of money to his ministry, but he wrote this thing that he sent out a few years ago and he criticized the message of prosperity. And man, I sent him an email back and I blasted him. I tore into him and I told him, “You live in a good house. You drive a nice car. It takes money for you to go around the world and preach the gospel and do all this. And if you didn’t have prosperity, you couldn’t do all the good things you’re doing for God.” Well, he’s never in several years since that, he had never said another negative word about prosperity. And the Lord really led it on my heart last year to pay for a church in India. And so we did that earlier this year and I just got pictures back yesterday. It’s a beautiful church they built, we partnered with the church there to build. And so I immediately sent a message said that I wanna build another one. “How much does it take?” And he said, “So much.” I said, “There’ll be a cheque in the mail. We’re building another church.” And we’ve built churches in India. We’ve built pastors homes in Africa, two pastors homes in Africa, one pastor’s home in Central America. We’ve built feeding ministries in Africa. I helped years ago by a mission center in Europe. And this ministry helped people all over the world and we’ve been investing in the gospel and you know you don’t wanna fight what you need. You need the gospel, you need the promises of the gospel. And I like what Mark says. Only part that’ll work is what you believe and what you’re not ashamed of. So Paul says I’m not ashamed of the gospel let’s get right. So Paul made these three key decisions to live his life. Number one, I’m a debtor. Number two, I’m ready to preach the gospel. And number three, I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. We’re gonna be back in just a few seconds. And so stay tuned. Friends! I’ve been teaching from my series on Romans the Revelation of Righteousness. Romans is actually my favorite book of the Bible. And I teach this class. I’ve been teaching it for years at Charis Bible College in Woodland Park with Andrew Wommack. And so I’m teaching about the gospel is the Revelation of Righteousness. You wanna get ahold of this? I have a book on it. I also have a four CD, many teaching on it. And then most recently we’ve done the 16 teaching USB that you can get just as we’ve been teaching it here on television. And so you wanna get ahold of this revelation. If you get ahold of this revelation, it will change your life. So Romans, the Revelation of Righteousness, thanks so much for being with us today. I’m sure that you’ll enjoy this great teaching and you’ll wanna share it with your friends. Blessings, we appreciate you. Praise the Lord friends. I’m so glad that you stay tuned. We’re sharing from Romans chapter one. We’re gonna get right into the heart of this message in verse 16, in verse 17, where Paul says, “I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes it. To the Jew first and also to the Greek, for their in the gospel the righteousness of God has been revealed from faith to faith, from the faith of the Jew to the faith of the Gentile, as it is written the just shall live by faith.” Now there’s so many things in there, but the first one he says, “I’m not ashamed of the gospel.” What is the gospel? The gospel is the good news. The good news of what? The good news of what Jesus has already done for us. What He’s already made available in His death, burial and resurrection. It’s past tense, praise God. That He already provided forgiveness for our sins. He already provided healing for our bodies. Peace for our minds. Jesus did this in His death and resurrection. So Paul says, “I’m not ashamed of the good message. The good news of what Jesus has done.” He says, “For the gospel is the power of God.” It releases the power of God. That word for power in the Greek is dunamis. The special, wonderful miracle working power of God. The same power that Jesus worked in the power of the Holy Spirit. He says of God unto salvation. Salvation here is the Greek word sotiria and what does that include?
Healing, forgiveness, peace, joy, provision.
All of that.
[Aaron] Yeah.
Amen. All of that’s in salvation. So he says to who? The gospel is to who?
To everyone who believes.
Yeah, you gotta believe it to receive it. Amen. If you wanna receive the benefits of the gospel, you gotta believe it. He says to the Jews first, the Bible actually says this in Acts 3:26, Paul said unto you first we came and they preached Jesus and they preached the gospel and God sent Jesus to bless you and turning you from your sins. And so the Jews that they believed it, but he says it’s also to the Greek or to the Gentile. The gospel works for Jews and Gentiles. It works for everybody who believes it. He says in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed. Now what is righteousness?
[Aaron] Just right standing before God.
Yeah. So how do we receive righteousness.
Through believing on Jesus.
Through believing on Jesus? That’s it. That’s what the Bible says. That’s it. He says the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. So right standing with God is given by faith, by believing Jesus, as it is written the just shall live by faith. What a statement. We live by faith and faith is a lifestyle. Faith isn’t a movement, it’s a lifestyle. And what’s it mean to be justified.
Just as if you never sinned.
So we can live just like we never sin. This is the simple gospel, isn’t it? And we live that when we believe in what Jesus did, we’re made righteous. We’re given the righteousness of Jesus as a gift. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made Him Jesus to be sinned for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God.” That’s just exactly what you were saying here. We’re made righteous. When are you made righteous?
When you believe on Jesus.
The moment you believe, you can’t get any more righteous than you are the moment that you believe. In your spirit, you can’t get any more righteous, can you?
No.
You’re the righteousness of Jesus. I like to say I am as righteousness as Jesus is righteous, that makes people mad. Years ago religious people don’t understand this, when your mother and I were getting married in 1984, some family members came and they went to a religious church. And I said, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ.” And they got so mad over me saying that. Well, years later, they had some major trouble in their family. And they started believing that they’re the righteousness of God. Praise God. It really helped the one that believed it, praise God. And if you’ll believe the gospel it’ll help you.
I like that he talks about the power of God under salvation. Everyone who believes for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Faith is the greatest equalizer in the universe. So there’s a lot of people searching for equality, searching for justice, and you really can’t have true equality. You really can’t have true justice without Jesus Christ. And a lot of people are trying to bring justice to the world apart from Jesus, they’re rejecting Jesus, but you’re not really gonna find justice apart from Jesus, their entire political movements, philosophical movements throughout world history, even currently where people are trying to bring about justice and they completely reject Jesus. And you’re not gonna have justice apart from Jesus.
There’s not.
There’s gonna be turmoil. There’s gonna be riding. There’s gonna, and that’s what happens when people completely reject Jesus and they try to bring about justice on their own.
You can’t do it because of the sinful nature of man. And that’s what Paul goes on and talks about. He says in verse 18, through the end of chapter one, he talks about the Gentile need the non-religious person, the Gentile need for righteousness. And he says, “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” He said, “Because that which may be known of God is manifest, may known in them for God has showed it to them.” In verse 20 he says , “For the invisible things or attributes of God from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made. Even his eternal power and Godhead. So they are without excuse.” Everybody knows there’s a creator. Everybody knows there’s a God. The Bible says the devils believe and tremble. And so everybody knows there’s a God. They may be trying to lie to their self. But at the end of the day, there’s no atheist in the foxholes. And he says this in verse 21, “Because that when they knew God, they glorified Him. Not as God, neither were they thankful, but became vain in their imaginations. And their foolish heart was darkened.” So when people knew God and they reject God, they don’t glorify miss God. They aren’t thankful to Him for being God. They become vain. Their imaginations actually go in a negative way and it brings darkness to their heart. And he talks about the Gentile problem in verse 22, 23 and 24 philosophy, idolatry and lust, and then verse 25 through the end of the chapter. It’s just sin, ungodliness.
Well, I love what he was saying in verse 21. God showed me something here from verse 21. I was preaching recently on faith and just meditating the believing side of faith, meditating, thinking about the Word of God and God just spoke to me and said, “You need to be thankful.” And if you’re thankful, thankfulness navigates your imagination. And you see that here in verse 21, cause if you’re thankful, you’re imagination. What you’re thinking about, what you’re meditating, just your thought life, your heart. It’s gonna go in the direction that God wants it to go. But if you’re unthankful, your imagination is gonna work in a negative way.
It’ll work against you instead for me.
Yeah, I’ve seen even believers who become unthankful and they start imagining problems that aren’t really there or imagining other people to be the problem when in reality they might be the problem themself.
Yeah. Well, you know what? It says that, and we’ll have to talk about this later, because we’re out of time. So we’ll begin tomorrow’s broadcast and we’ll begin right here and we’ll be sharing on the Gentile need for righteousness. They’re caught up in philosophy, idolatry, lust, all kinds of sin and ungodliness. And so they need righteousness. They need Jesus. The world needs Jesus. Jesus is the answer for the world. Praise God, and we see this in the Gentile world. We see it in our world today. They profess themselves to be wise, but they’re fools. They make up doctrines like the doctrine of evolution. And you know what? It’s just an idea. There’s no fossil record, evolution is a lie that humanist people made up because they were trying to get rid of the mentality that God created the Heaven and Earth. But everybody that’s been born knows that they’re created by God. And so philosophy, idolatry, they make other things into being God. And then finally lust. And it says in verse 24 that God gave them up to uncleanliness through the less of their own heart, to dishonor their bodies between themselves. And we see this happening in the world in a rampant way, you know you went to secular colleges and you saw this happening in a big way. But thank God you didn’t get involved, did you?
Nope.
Praise God, because you believe the gospel. Because you knew that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. And when you understand the gospel, it will literally change their life. And so Aaron go really quickly and just share with them before we go off the air.
