Promise, Price, and Power of Redemption Transcript

Welcome friends to the broadcast. I’m so glad that you tuned in today. We are talking about the promises of redemption. Today we’re gonna talk about the fact that when you got born again, when you believed on Jesus, God gifted you. He imparted, he imputed his righteousness to you. But that’s not all. The fact is, he is not imputing sin to those who believe on Jesus. Listen. Friends, I’m glad that you’re here today and we are talking about the promises of redemption. And thank God we’ve got so many promises of redemption. We’re gonna begin today with one in Isaiah chapter 41. We’re gonna start in verse eight. We’re gonna read on down through verse 14. And thank God for all of these promises of redemption. Aaron, why don’t you go ahead and read that.

It says here, “But you, Israel are my servant Jacob, whom I have chosen. The descendants of Abraham, my friend, you whom I have taken from the ends of the earth and called from its farthest regions and said to you, you are my servant. I have chosen you and have not cast you away. Fear not for I am with you. Be not dismayed for I’m your God. I’ll strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Behold, all those who are incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced. They shall be as nothing. And those who strive with you shall perish. You shall seek them and not find them. Those who contended with you, those who war against you, shall be as nothing, as a non-existent thing. For I, the Lord your God will hold your right hand saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you. Fear not you are Jacob, you men of Israel, I will help you’, says the Lord and your redeemer, the holy one of Israel.

Amen. What a marvelous promise of redemption. I’ve got a really kind of amazing story that goes with this. Years ago when we were pastoring in Kit Carson, God had given us a beautiful place on the northeast side of town, but there’s a situation that rose between me and a neighbor, and I loved him, he loved me, but it was a rather difficult situation. And so I went to talk to him, and I, I literally told him before I left, I said, listen, if, if this is gonna be such an issue, I can sell my place. I can move somewhere else, and so on and so forth. And then I went and told your mother that, and she was like, what have you done? You know, and she was kind of frantic about it. But right after I told Mom, I went to the next town, to the Assembly of God church in Eads, Colorado, 20 miles away from Kit Carson, 20 miles south of Kit Carson is a, you know, Kit Carson’s about 300. Eads is about, you know, a thousand people or so. And I went down there, had a good friend that pastored for years, the Assembly God church there. And so he was having a special meeting with a man who he said was a prophet, and he wanted me to come hear him. So I went down to hear him. And you know, I wasn’t moved really a lot by this prophet when he was speaking, so on and so forth. He had written a book. I think he had some things, was really contesting abortion, which I greatly respect. But his teaching really didn’t move me, which many times that happens as prophets. They’re very good in the prophetic, but sometimes his teaching, they’re not as gifted in the teaching area as the prophetic area. But when I left, he gave me a book and he opened the front of the book and signed it. And he put down this scripture right here from Isaiah chapter 41, verse eight through verse 14. But really, he focused on verse 11 through verse 14. “Behold, all those who were incensed against you will be ashamed and confounded. They will be as nothing, and that they that strive with you shall perish and you will seek them and not find them. Even those who contended with you, they that war against you shall be as nothing and as a thing of not.” And he wrote that scripture down in that book, and it just stuck out to me and I read it. And then I just went back home to Kit Carson. And when I got home and saw your mom, she said, I was praying and God gave me this scripture. I said 41:10-14, the same exact scriptures essentially, that this man wrote in that book, God had given Mother. And you know what, God just brought peace to that entire situation. And know sometimes, you know, it can be frustrating in life. People have differences. There are different challenges. But we have a God who has redeemed us. And part of the promises of redemption are promises of protection, of course, to a mother who has a young family. Her home is a very big deal. It’s a very big thing. And, but God took care of us. Amen. And God takes care of us. And so thank God we have all of these different promises. There are many, many promises of redemption. And really these promises, this Isaiah was given about 700 years before Christ. David wrote about a thousand years before Christ. And we see some promises of redemption in David in Psalm 32. I love Psalm 32, verse one and verse two. And we see this repeated in Romans chapter four. But Aaron, if you want to jump in there and read Psalm 32, verse one and two, and then we’ll jump in and see how this really relates to the gospel in Romans chapter four.

It says, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity and in whose spirit there is no deceit.”

Amen. So, so he says, blessed is the man whose sins are forgiven, whose transgression is forgiven, whose sins are covered. But then he goes on and said, blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. So when you read Romans four, and Romans four is talking about how we receive righteousness by grace through faith. And Paul, when he writes this, uses David as an example of grace and Abraham as an example of faith. And he’s talking about the subject of righteousness and he essentially says in Romans chapter three, where we were earlier this week that Jesus provided righteousness in his death and resurrection. And now what he says, he says in verse five, he says, “But to him who works not but believes on him who justifies the ungodly?” There’s only one kind of people that God justifies and that’s ungodly people. And that’s because that’s the only type he has to work with. Everybody has sinned. Everybody is ungodlike in that aspect because God has never sinned. His faith is counted, his faith is imputed to him for righteousness, even as David describes the blessedness to whom the Lord imputes righteousness without works. So God imputes his righteousness. He, when we believe on Jesus, he gives us his righteousness. II Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him Jesus to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” So he made Jesus to become a sin offering for us. Jesus who knew no sin, Jesus never sinned, but God put our sins on Jesus that he says that we who did not know righteousness might be made righteous by the, by Jesus made, God made him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made, we who are sinful might be made. We were gifted, we were imparted. God imputed his righteousness to us, the righteousness of God in him. But Dave Paul doesn’t stop here in Romans chapter four and said, “How blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes righteousness.” So when you believe on Jesus and when you’re saved, God gives you the gift of righteousness. It’s not something that you did. He says saying, blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered, thank God. He covered our sins. We, we read that we received the propitiation, right, the covering through faith in his blood, in Romans chapter 3:25. So our sins are covered. He says, “Blessed is the man.” This is where he goes farther, right? And this is the same thing that David prophesied of, David prophesied what Jesus was gonna do in his death and resurrection. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. So number one, he imputed his righteousness to us. But then as part of the new covenant, he says, “He will not impute sin.” God is not imputing sin, he is not accounting sin. He’s not putting sin on our account. He’s not keeping track. I grew up in Sunday school where my Sunday school teacher said, “God’s in heaven and he’s got a big video camera, and he’s videoing your whole life. And when you get there, he’s gonna play it back in slow motion,” my Sunday school teacher said. My Sunday school teacher was trying to scare the evil and badness and sin outta me. But, but that’s, that’s, you know what, my Sunday school teacher lied. That’s not the truth, because it tells me right here that God imputes righteousness to us when we believe on Jesus, and then he will not impute sin into us.

Yeah, in Romans four, whenever Paul uses the word impute, or accounts or accounted, it’s all the same Greek word. It’s the Greek word logizomai, which is an accounting term. It’s like, you know, if, if you were to go to an accountant or doing your own, you know, records of finances, there’s a debit column and there’s a credit column. So a debit is, is when something, you know, you pay something, money goes out of your accounts. Like maybe you got gas this morning for $50, that’s a $50 debit. But if you, you know, we’re paid a $1,000, that’d be a $1,000 credit.

  Right.

So here he’s saying that, that the way we are accredited righteousness is through faith in Jesus.

  Amen.

And if you actually are trying to perform, trying to do it on your own, Romans 4:4 says this. “Now to him who works”, that means that you’re, you think your righteousness, your relationship with God is based upon you-

  Right.

Based upon your action. It says, “If you think that way, the wages, that’s called a wage. It’s not counted as grace, but as debt. So if you actually think that the credit of Jesus’ blood isn’t enough, I have to add to it.

  Right.

To pay a debt, to get outta debt, I have to add to that I wasn’t credited enough. You’re diminishing, the value of the blood of Jesus.

  Amen.

So you’re saying I have to do certain things to be made righteous. It’s actually counted against you because you’re in essence diluting, you’re diminishing the value of the blood of Jesus.

Amen. So, thank God we are righteous by faith in Jesus and faith in Jesus alone. It’s faith in Jesus. Faith in Jesus is the embodiment of grace. So it’s faith in his grace. We’re saved by grace through faith that not our of ourselves, it’s a gift of God, not by words.

Yeah, I like that you say Jesus plus nothing equals everything or the blood of Jesus plus nothing equals everything. So if you take, if you like, do it this way, Jesus plus zero equals 100. If you’re saying, well, I have to add something to Jesus, Jesus plus 10% me, then Jesus is no longer a hundred. You’re making Jesus 90, you’re lowering the value of what Jesus did for you.

  Yeah. Equals nothing.

Jesus is everything. The blood of Jesus is everything. Amen. It’s a hundred percent everything that you need.

You, you get everything by grace through faith, you get all the promises of God by grace through faith. You get salvation, forgiveness, healing, provision, peace, freedom, all of it comes by grace through faith. It’s, in other words, Jesus did it all. You don’t need to do anything else. You can’t improve on what Jesus has done. Trying to say that you need to add something to Jesus is like saying that Jesus is not enough. That the cross was not enough, but the cross was enough and Jesus is enough, amen? He’s more than enough. So all you need to do is believe the gospel. And if you’ll believe the gospel it’ll change your life. Amen? Now we’re gonna come back and we’re gonna share more promises of redemption so stay tuned. God bless you. Friends, thanks so much for being with us today. I’ve been teaching on the promise, the price, and the power of redemption.   I’ve been redeemed from the curse. So that means I’m re redeemed from death. I’m redeemed from slavery. I’m redeemed from sickness and I’m redeemed from poverty. And I just am so thankful that, to be here, to learn these kind of things because I’ve never been taught this before.

Friends, I’m so glad that you stayed with us. We’re gonna talk about more promises of redemption. Aaron, I want you to turn to Psalm 130, and I want you to read Psalm 130, verse seven and verse eight. Thank God we have all of these promises of redemption.

It says here in Psalm 130:7 & 8, “Oh, Israel hope in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy. And with him is abundant redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Amen. So we hope in the Lord. God has mercy. Man, I don’t, you know what? I’m not claiming that I’m good enough. I’m not even in any way trying to do that. I need mercy. You know, the Bible actually says in Titus 3:5 “By his mercy, he saved us and washed us with the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost.” What happened when you got born again is you got regened, you got regenerated in Christ, and you’re a brand new creation in Christ. You got the genealogy of Jesus working on your account. Man, that’s awesome. Hallelujah. And so he says, “Our transgression is forgiven, and the Lord is not imputing iniquity. He says that in Psalm 132, verse one and two, but he says, with the Lord, there’s mercy and he shall redeem Israel from how many of his iniquities?

  All.

All of his iniquity, all of our sins have been paid for, all of our iniquities have been forgiven, our rebellion. Thank God for what Jesus has already done. It’s his mercy. And this is a, here’s another promise of redemption. It says in Isaiah 48:17, “Thus says the Lord, your redeemer, I am the Lord your God, which teaches you how to profit and lead you in the way you should go.” The Lord will teach you how to profit. And the Lord’s taught you how to profit. He’s blessed you and helped you in many ways, he’s taught me. Hallelujah. God is so good. So thank God.

I love that you know, with the Lord, there is mercy. That word for mercy in Hebrew is hhesed, which means grace. And you know, the, his mercies are new every day. There’s always new mercy, there’s always new grace. And the thing about grace and mercy, it frees you, it transforms you, and it empowers you.

  Amen. Praise God. That’s awesome.

The mercy of God. It frees you. A lot of people understand that. But it also transforms you. So you’re set free from sin, you’re set free from failure. You’re set free from the power of the enemy. You’re set free from the kingdom of darkness. But not only that, you are transformed.

  Amen.

You are made righteous. You’re made a new creation in Christ.

  Amen.

  You’re transformed.

  Amen.

But not only that, he gives you the power to live it out.

Amen. Now, there’s a lot to what you just said. When you talk about this, the blood of Jesus not only paid the penalty, right, the price for our sins.

  To set you free.

But the blood of Jesus gave us power, right? Empowers us to live free from sin. So it broke the penalty, right? And broke the power of sin. So the penalty for sin has been paid and the power of sin has been broken. And talking about redemption, Titus chapter two, Titus talks about this. And I just quoted Titus chapter one when I said this, that he saved us by, we’re saved by, or Titus chapter 3:5, we’re saved by his mercy. And he washed us with the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. But in Titus chapter two, just before that, and I’m getting there, it’s Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James. So I got all these Ts, but Titus chapter three, that was Titus two, 3:5, not by works of righteousness that we’ve done, but according to his mercy, he saved us with the washing of generation and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. But Titus two says this in verse 11, “the grace of God who bring salvation, Jesus, has appeared to all men teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.” Grace of God not only frees us from sin, but it teaches us how to live right in a world that’s wrong, looking for that blessed hope and the glory of appearing of the great God in our savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity. Jesus gave himself to purchase us from iniquity, to purchase us from rebellion that, and purify to himself, a peculiar people’s zealous of good work. We’re peculiar, we’re different. We’re God’s own special people. We’re one of a kind. And what made us different, God purchased us. Jesus purchased us with his blood. And so the blood of Jesus not only paid the penalty for our sin, but it broke the power of sin. So sin no longer has dominion over me. Paul says this in Roman chapter 6:12 and 14, because I’m not under the law, but under grace, thank God, because the blood of Jesus has enacted this new covenant.

You know, I love that you’re sharing a lot of great revelation that God has given you. And I think God just spoke this to me, but with great revelation, God’s gonna give you great wisdom too. There’s always a spirit of wisdom and revelation.

  Yeah.

So Revelation is a great, understanding that the Holy Spirit reveals to you, but wisdom, it shows you how to apply it to your life, how to actually live it out.

  Amen.

So you don’t only need revelation, you need wisdom. Like, how is this gonna affect my life?

Amen. My destiny. You know, I love what you’re talking about. You know, in the book of Proverbs, there are actually three key words. And they are wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. And knowledge is just having the facts. Many times people teach different aspect aspects of knowledge in school, in college, different ways. And many times when people go to Bible school, for instance, they get knowledge, but they don’t always have wisdom. They don’t always have revelation with that. I was looking at going to a major leading, kind of charismatic Bible college when I was gonna graduate from high school. And I went and looked at a big university or Roberts University, that’s not the the one, but I looked at another Bible college that I was thinking about, and I went there with a prophet of God who was a friend of Andrew Womack’s. And this prophet of God said, Lawson, they teach this here, but you don’t, this is not, you already have more revelation in this than most people that graduate from this school. And he basically told me, this is not the place for you. And so I, I just received that word because I respected him as a man of God. And I, and God really directed me not, I love ORU, I’ve got ORU graduates that work for me. My doctor is an ORU graduate, one of my best friends. And I thank God for that school. I thank God for this other school. I have great friends that have, some of my best friends in the ministry graduated from this Bible college, so on and so forth. But that wasn’t God’s place for me. And you know, it was actually a few months later, I was sitting in a chair in my mom’s trailer house in the corner of the living room reading a book by Lester Sumrall called “Miracles Don’t Just Happen”. And when I was reading that book, in the middle of that book, he had a little one page advertisement for his Bible school. At that time it was called World Harvest Bible College. And the Lord spoke to me and said, ‘You need to go to that college.” And then my mom walked by and said, “He has a Bible school. Maybe you’re supposed to go there.” It’s like the Holy Spirit, like in the mouth of two or three witnesses. The Holy Spirit spoke it to me, and then my mama spoke it to me. Man, one time when we were in Kit Carson, you know, God was stirring us up because he wanted to do more. And we were thinking about a different church and we, we found out about a church in Dallas that needed a pastor. And I was gonna go down there, you know, and, but before I was gonna go down there, I was to have a phone interview and your mom told me not to go there. And somebody else told me not to go there. And the prophet of God, Bobbie Jean Merck, she was a prophet of God. She went home to be with Jesus earlier this year. All three of them told me not to go there. And I thought, “Thank God.” If your mama, it was, it was my mama and my wife Barbara, and the prophet of God all told me, don’t do that. You don’t have to do it. So I knew going into that interview, I wasn’t to go there. So I, what I did, I, I actually canceled the physical, I actually called them and canceled the interview. And then I went to the church the morning I would’ve had the interview and I would’ve been at home on the phone doing this over the phone interview. I canceled it. I said, listen, I can’t come. My wife, my mom, and the prophet, God all told me, no man. That’s God. The mouth of three witnesses. So I was at the church and you were at that church, that morning Aaron. And you were playing your flute in the sanctuary. I was in the back of the church in my office. And I was studying and praying, seeking God. And somebody drove up and they, they knocked on the door and came in the back door and asked if they could use a restroom. They said, we haven’t found a place in town. I said, “Sure.” And they said, “We’re actually going over here to pray over where Kit Carson slaughtered these Indians.” And so that, that was a-

It wasn’t Kit Carson, it was Chivington.

Chivington, okay. Yeah, Where Chivington slaughtered these Indians, you know your history better than me-

  Sand Creek Massacre.

Sand Creek massacre. So anyway, they were going to pray, but when, when they went to the restroom, they heard you in the sanctuary play. And they said, “Man, that is beautiful music.” You were probably in, you know, seventh or eighth grade, I don’t know. Well, no, you couldn’t have been, it might’ve been between sixth and eighth grade. But you were in there playing, and I think you had bought a new flute and that was a $6,000 flute, brand new Haynes, solid silver flute, professional flute. And we had taken you to a class and they came and they said, they asked if they could give, and they gave you a thousand dollars. And you know what, we wouldn’t have got that a thousand dollars blessing if I’d have been home doing that interview. Man, it’s important that you hear God and listen to the voice of God and obey the God. And when you obey, the Bible says, if you be willing and obedient, you shall eat of the good of the land. And it’s important for all of us to obey God. And I’m just thinking, you know, we had this great revival, our camp meeting here, and you were given, I was given, a lot of people were given, you were very generous in your gift gifting, maybe even challenging me. But when I was thinking about that, I’ve done that at times. And then God has opened doors and I was actually at camp meeting in Lester Sumrall’s. And I gave it, mom and I were given a lot for where we were then. We probably gave a thousand dollars that week. We made about a thousand dollars a month then it for us, that was a pretty big gift at that point in time. ’cause we had you three boys and when we came home, there was a, a somebody on my answering service and they wanted to use the stakes on my property to survey because they bought a piece of property from this one man. And I needed to buy some property from him. And so I went and talked to him and I made a deal with him. I sold to my neighbor a piece of property. It’s like 20 acres. He paid a thousand dollars an acre and then I bought like 12 acres or 16 that for a thousand dollars, I think it was 12 acres, we had already had four. And, and I just, it was cornered our property. So I could just go there and had a, an old abandoned feedlot on it. And we bought that and God used that to bless us. And so God does all these things to bless us and help us when we obey him. It’s good to obey the Lord. You know, job talks about if you obey and serve him, you’ll spend your days in prosperity. And God wants you to prosper.

Well, and the Holy Spirit leads you. You gotta be led.

  Amen.

You know I have, I have two dogs and they’re a little stubborn sometimes they don’t wanna be lead and they’ll try to pull on it.

  Amen.

  But you gotta be led.

Amen. I would encourage you to sow a seed into this ministry if God leads you, if God directs you. I believe that’s good ground and I believe you’ll get a good harvest.
