Promise, Price, and Power Of Redemption – Part 2 Lawson and Aaron Perdue

  Welcome friends to the broadcast. I’m so glad that you tuned in today. We are talking about the promises of redemption. Thank God that we have a Bible full of promises that Jesus has already paid for and there’s nothing more that we need to do to receive them than to believe the gospel. So believe the gospel and be blessed. Friends, it’s so good to have you with us on the broadcast today. Thank God the word of God is true. We’re talking today about the promise of redemption. And I wanna begin today with this scripture in Isaiah 59. Isaiah was a prophet and he prophesied about six to 700 years before Christ. And we’re gonna be reading in Isaiah 59:16 and we’ll read on down through verse 21. And this is actually talking about all three of these things: the promise, the price, and the power of redemption. It says in verse 20, “The redeemer shall come to Zion and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob says the Lord.” Hallelujah. So Zion, in the Old Testament, when you see that prophesied of in Isaiah, he’s literally talking in a figurative way about the church, literally about the nation of Israel, but figuratively about the church. And so he’s talking about Jesus is gonna come. I’m glad Jesus is coming for the church. Thank God that’s talking about an aspect of redemption that is future tense. There’s actually past tense, present tense, and future tense aspects of redemption when we see the Bible. But we talked a little bit yesterday about the past tense of redemption. Jesus said, “It is finished” when he died on the cross. Amen? But there’s also this aspect that Jesus is coming and gonna redeem our body. We’re gonna get a glorified body. Now, if we jump back up to verse 16, look at this. He says, “He saw there was no man and wondered that there was no intercessor. Therefore, his arm brought salvation to him and his righteousness, it sustained him for he put on righteousness as a breastplate and a helmet of salvation on his head, for he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing and was clad with zeal as a cloak.” So this is talking about there was nobody that could pay for our redemption. So God sent Jesus. When you see the arm of the Lord, the Bible talks about the right arm of the Lord. It’s prophetic and it’s speaking of Jesus. Jesus is gonna come. And it says, “Because there was no man, no intercessor, Jesus brought salvation, His righteousness.” Jesus never sinned. His righteousness sustained him. “He put on righteousness as a breastplate and a helmet of salvation on his head.” Jesus is the one who made salvation available to us. And it says, “And he put on the garments of vengeance and was clad with zeal.” Then it goes on in verse 18. It says, “According to their deeds, according he will repay fury to His adversaries, repayment to His enemies, to the islands. He will repay them.” Thank God, you know, there is protection in the Lord. I’ve had the Lord protect me at different times. I’ve had different people come against me and stand against me. Actually, Mark Hankins was preaching here last Sunday and he preached this. And I didn’t know, actually, I hadn’t really, I’ve read this over and over, but I’d missed it. But he was preaching, I believe he was speaking prophetically. But it says this in Psalm 89:23, “I will beat down his foes before his face.” He said, “I’ll beat down your enemies before his faith.” And we have a situation where we’re going into a deal to face some people who have accusations, but he says, “I’m gonna beat them down before your face and plague them that hate him. But my faithfulness and my mercy will be with him and in my name, his horn will be exalted.” You know, David, that’s in Psalm. But David had many enemies, but the Lord protected him. And I believe we have supernatural protection through the Lord. You know, the Bible actually says this in Isaiah 54:17. This is a promise of the new covenant. It says, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you shall condemn for your righteousness is of me says the Lord.” Praise God? Thank God the Lord is protected us and he is protecting us through the righteousness of Jesus. Now, we go on, and he says this in verse 19. He says, “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the West and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord shall raise up a standard against him.” So we talked about this a little bit yesterday in the broadcast very briefly. But the promise of redemption has been made. I mean, the Old Testament is full of promises of redemption. The promise has been made. The New Testament has promises of redemption too. Then the price has been paid, but yet it’s the power of redemption. This talks about the power. The spirit of the Lord shall raise up a standard against him. You see, the Father made a promise and Jesus paid for us to have that promise, but it’s the Holy Spirit that gives us the power to receive that. And so there’s a past tense promise that has been made. There’s a past tense redemption that has been paid. Jesus said, it is finished when he died on the cross, but yet the present day aspect of redemption is the power of the Holy Spirit. He said, “When the enemy comes in like a flood,” sometimes we have challenges and difficulties and problems. Just because you got saved and started believing the promises doesn’t mean that you’re never gonna have any problems. In fact, in Hebrews chapter 10, it says, “Immediately after you were illuminated you received a great fight of afflictions.” But it goes on and says, “Cast not away your confidence which has great repayment of reward.” Hallelujah. We’re not of those who draw back to perdition or to judgment, but we’re of those that believe. S when challenges come we just keep believing God. We just keep believing the word. And so he says this, “When the enemy comes in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against him.” And then we see again this promise, “The redeemer shall come designed to those who turn from transgression in Jacob, says the Lord, as for me, my covenant is with them and my spirit.” Again, we see “The power is upon you and the words which I put in your mouth shall not depart outta your mouth or the mouth of your seed, nor outta the mouth of your seed, says the Lord, from now on and forever.” So we see in that prophecy, Isaiah 59:16-21 we see the Lord is talking about the promise of redemption. He’s talking about the price of redemption. “His arm brought salvation,” talking about Jesus, and he’s talking about the Holy Spirit. He’s talking about the power of redemption. So thank God we have promises that God made, Jesus paid for, and the Holy Spirit gives us the power to get ’em.

 

  I love verse 21 where he talks about “My spirit who is upon you, and my words, which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth.” The ministry of the Holy Spirit and the word of God go hand in hand together.

 

  Amen.

 

  I’ve seen people who get baptized in the Holy Spirit, filled with the Holy Spirit. Like maybe something was holding them back before, maybe as the traditional denominational teaching that kind of kept them back from moving into, receiving that baptism of the Holy Spirit. But I had a friend who loved the word of God. She’d read the Bible two or three hours a day. But man, when she received the Holy Spirit, baptized in the Holy Spirit, prayed in tongues. It’s like the word of God just lit up like a fire in her. And for weeks after receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, every time she’d read the Bible, her hands would shake.

 

  Hallelujah.

 

  The word became so powerful to her entire being.

 

  Amen, thank God.

 

  So there’s something so powerful about the Spirit of God and the word of God. And I love that it says, it shall not depart your mouth. You know, just like the word of God shouldn’t depart your mouth, you need to thank God for the Holy Spirit and also teach the Word to your children. Also teach the move of the Holy Spirit to your children.

 

  Amen.

 

  As well.

 

  Amen.

 

  Your kids need to catch some things from older generations. They need to catch understanding the word of God. That the word of God is true. The word of God is powerful. It’s sharper than any two edged sword.

 

  Amen.

 

  Younger generations need to understand that the move of the Holy Spirit as well.

 

  Amen, I love to hear you talk about this, Aaron, your children and your children’s children. You know what? We used to have a saying and they’d say, “Grandpa planted the tree. And the son sat in the shade of the tree. And the grandson cut the tree down” because he had no relationship with the work that it took when the granddad planted the tree and took care of that tree to grow that tree. So Dr. Sumrall used to, Lester Sumrall, Dr. Lester Sumrall used to talk about this. He was one of my mentors, but he said, “We’ve gotta get it to the third generation.” And see, I’m first generation because in 1978, the end of the charismatic movement, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I was saved in 1972 when I was eight, but I didn’t receive the baptism of Holy Spirit till 1978 in a Bible study. And when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, just like you were teaching, just like you were sharing, the word of God came alive to me. That’s actually Jesus said in John 14:26, speaking about the Holy Spirit when he comes, “He shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance whatever I have said to you.” So Jesus is teaching about what the Holy Spirit’s gonna do. And the number one thing that the Holy Spirit’s gonna do is ’cause the words of Jesus to come alive to you. And that’s what happened to me, man. When I got baptized in the Holy Spirit, the word of God came alive to me. I thought, man, thank God I have a Bible full of promises that I can believe. So the word came alive to me. That’s what the Holy Spirit does. But you and your brothers, right? You’re a second generation and you got a lot because when you were raised, right, I already had that relationship with God. Your mom already had that relationship with God. We were both baptized in the Holy Spirit. We were both believing the promises, believing in healing, believing in provision, believing in the goodness of God. So you guys got a lot and we raised you and we imparted a lot of things to you, right? And you were raised in the church and you guys never rebelled. Thank God. You guys serve God and you’re all blessed, right? But what I’m waiting to see and I’m so happy to hear you talking about, we gotta get it to this next generation. And what I’m excited about is when your kids Fisher and Ada get it, praise God? And I can see it. I can see it happen. I’m excited about when Fisher and Ada get it, when Andrew’s children, Paisley and Gavin get it, and they’re in a good spirit field church, when Peter’s kids, and Peter’s talking about this already, we gotta get what we have to the next generation. Hallelujah. And he’s talking about natural things and he went to Princeton University. He sees how things have come from generation to generation and we wanna see generational blessing, right? But you know, when Eleanor, or Ellie, and Vivian, his two daughters, when they get, I wanna see all my grandkids get these things. I not only wanna see my natural sons, my spiritual sons and daughters, get these things. I wanna see their sons and daughters. I get so excited. We just had a camp meeting and a couple of pastors came that we imparted a lot too. Pastor Max Cornell did a great job. He taught for us. And Pastor Brian Clark from where?

 

  Greensboro.

 

  Greensboro, North Carolina, the triad area there. Grace Life Church. You could check that out. Brian and Ashley Clark. Great young couple, but I’m seeing their kids are getting it. Praise God. Their kids are coming to camp meeting, they’re saying, “Hey, we’re going back next year.” They said, “This is our third year they’ve been here every year.” Praise God. Max and Molly and then Brian’s been here the last two years and they’re like, “Man, we wanna come back.” Praise God. But we wanna get it to the next generation. And we’re gonna take a break in a few minutes, but one thing we’re doing to get this to the next generation is we’ve developed a children’s curriculum and we’re actually making this available. I’ve been paying $900 a year for a downloadable children’s curriculum that’s really not that good. But we got a professional curriculum writer. She’s been in our church for 10 years. She’s written curriculums for Andrew Wommack at Charis Bible College. But she is writing this curriculum and I’m overseeing every aspect of this that I can. And so I’ve laid out what I want taught. We’re teaching who God is, who Christ is, who the Holy Spirit is, and who we are. That’s the first year of it. And we’re teaching this in every quarter. We talk about salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, because we wanna get this in the next generation. Amen? And then once we get done with the first two years of kids’ curriculum, and it’s for ages, you can use it for ages about five to 12. We’re going to develop a junior high and high school curriculum and develop more things. Two years of that. So it’s great. And we’re making this available. I’ve been paying $900. I just, Brian Clark got ahold of me this morning. He went to our website, found it under downloads. We gotta get a way they can find it easier, but he downloaded it and he’s gonna start using it in his children’s church there. And Grace Life Church in Greensboro, North Carolina.   Past, present, and future tense sin were paid for on the cross by the blood. There is no other payment that needs to be paid for your forgiveness as far as God is concerned. He got over your sin at the cross and you need to let it go. You need to get over it. That is the gospel.

 

  Friends, I’m so glad that you stayed with us. We’re continuing to teach on redemption and we shared some scriptures here in Isaiah 59. We’re not getting very far, but praise God, we’re getting a lot of good word about the promise, the power, and the price. The promise, the price, and the power of redemption. I wanna go to Job chapter 19. This is a powerful promise of redemption in Job 19, Aaron. And let’s read verse 25 to verse 27, Job 19: 25-27. And you go ahead and read that.

 

  All right, it says here in Job 19:25-27, it says, “For I know that my redeemer lives and he shall stand at last on the earth. And after my skin is destroyed, this I know that in my flesh, I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself and my eyes shall behold and not another. How my heart yearns within me.”

 

  Amen, so this is talking about the promise of a redeemer, but it’s also talking about the promise of resurrection. And Job saw Jesus in a resurrected form. “I know my redeemer lives, he will stand at the latter day on the earth” verse 25. In verse 26, I like it a little better in the King James, it says, “Though after my skin, worms destroy this body. After worms eat this body”, he says. “Yet in my flesh God’s gonna give me a resurrected body. I shall see God.” I didn’t get a revelation of this until, man, I’ve been preaching for over 40 years. But one of my best friends had died and the Lord showed me this, “In my flesh,” he’s gonna give us a glorified physical body. Not only a spiritual body, but a physical body. Just like Jesus was raised from the dead in both a spiritual and a physical body. He told Thomas, “Stick your finger in my hand. Stick your hand in my side. Be not faithless, but believing.” So we’re gonna have a glorified body. And he says, he says, “I’m gonna see him for myself. My eyes will behold, and not another though my reigns be consumed with him.” Man, that’s a promise of redemption, of the redemption of our body. Romans 8 talks about that, promise of the redemption of our body, praise God. And so, man, there’s past aspects of redemption, present aspects of redemption, future aspects of redemption. As far as our past, our sins have been forgiven. Present our mind, praise God, we have been, it’s being delivered from the power of darkness. And as far as future, our body, we’re gonna get a glorified body when Jesus comes again. So thank God we got all these promises of redemption. Let’s read another one, Psalm 49. Let’s read verse, we’ll start with verse 15 and then we’ll go back up to verse six and read a few of these scriptures. But read Psalm 49:15 and look at some of these promises. This was written about a thousand years before Christ. Psalm, just go there and go ahead and read.

 

  Yeah, Psalm 49:15 it says, “But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave. He shall receive me, Selah.”

 

  Praise God. So there’s a promise of redemption. He’s gonna redeem not only our body, but there it says He’s gonna redeem our soul from the power of the grave. Glory to God. I actually believe when a believer dies, their body goes to the dirt, right? Their body goes to earth. I came from dust, going to dust, but your spirit and soul go to be with God. But then when Jesus comes again, you’re gonna get a glorified physical and spiritual body. You’re gonna be raised up. And it says, the Bible actually talks about how we’ll be known as we are known, praise God. And so, like my good friends that I knew now that they’re probably all gonna be 30 and healthy and strong, you know, it’s a prime of life. And you’re glorified spiritual bodies. Never gonna have to deal with some of the problems that we had in this physical body today. But it’s amazing. Now, if we go back to Psalm 49:6, he says, “They that trust in their wealth and boast themselves and the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him.” It’s talking about a ransom price. We’re also talking about the price of redemption. The price of redemption is the blood of Jesus. And we used to sing this song, Aaron, years and years ago, I don’t know if you ever heard it, but it’s says, “If I had all the wealth that this world had to give, if I had the money and all the silver and all the gold, it wouldn’t be enough to buy one drop of the blood that was shed for my salvation.” He says, “The redemption of the soul is precious. We can’t trust in our wealth.”

 

  And you can’t pay for any aspect of redemption either.

 

  No.

 

  Redemption includes forgiveness of sin

 

  Right.

 

  But it also includes healing for your body. It includes the blessing of the Lord that makes one rich.

 

  Amen.

 

  And adds no sorrow to it. You know, it’s good to live right.

 

  Right.

 

  It’s good to to be a giver. It’s good to do these kinds of things. But you can’t actually buy any aspect of redemption.

 

  You can’t buy your forgiveness. You can’t buy your healing. You can’t buy prosperity.

 

  I recently started reading a biography by Eric Metaxas, he’s a really great thinker and communicator and writer. And he wrote a great biography about Martin Luther. And Martin Luther, his big issue with the church at the time was that the church would sell indulgences. So sell salvation to people.

 

  Yeah.

 

  So you could pay a certain amount.

 

  That’s terrible.

 

  You could buy your own salvation. You could buy your grandma’s salvation who’s still stuck in purgatory if you believed in that.

 

  You know what? The Bible says it’s appointed to man wants to die. And then the judgment, that’s Hebrews 9:27. It says this, “As a tree falls, also shall it lie.” So, man, the state you die in is the state you’re gonna spend eternity in. So don’t believe those lies of religion. I love you, God bless you, but that’s a lie. Go ahead.

 

  Yeah, where do you wanna go?

 

  All right, so we’re right here in Psalm 49. He, he says, “No, none of us, those who trust in their wealth, boasting themselves of riches. They can’t redeem their brother.” They can’t give God a payment. Only the blood of Jesus could pay for our redemption, for our forgiveness. He says in verse eight, “For the redemption of their soul is precious and it ceases forever that he should still live forever and not see corruption.” Man, Jesus, when he is raised from the dead, you know, there’s a promise of him in Psalm 16 and he quotes it, You know that he’s not gonna see corruption. Glory to God. He went to the grave and I’m gonna read this. This is powerful. It’s a powerful promise that we have today. And there’s many different aspects. It’s talking about eternity. But Psalm 16 says this. Hm, my goodness. I read another one, Psalm 16 in verse 11. This is a promise, or, oh, well, I’ll just start in verse nine, talking about the promises of redemption. He said, “Therefore, my heart is glad and my glory rejoices, my flesh shall rest in hope for you will not leave my soul in hell.” He says, “Neither will you suffer your holy one to see corruption.” Your body’s not gonna rot. It’s not gonna die. This promise to Jesus. “For you will show me the path of life in your presence is fullness of joy and at thy right hand, there are pleasures forevermore.” So Jesus was raised from the dead the third day. They had this thinking back in the days of Jesus that people could be raised from the dead to the third day, but the fourth day is too far gone because they already begin to rot. But then when Jesus went and raised Lazarus from the dead, they said, “He’s already been dead four days.” He was already starting to rot. But Jesus didn’t start to rot. This is a promise really to Jesus and a promise of redemption. “You will not leave my soul in hell. You will not suffer your holy one to see corruption. You will show me the path of life and thy presence is fullness of joy. And at thy right hand, there are pleasures forevermore.” Thank God we can have the promise of eternal joy and living in the presence of Jesus forever. It’s a marvelous thing.

 

  I like that you talked about that we’ll have an actual physical body. When Jesus was raised from the dead, he had a physical body.

 

  Amen.

 

  But it was also a glorified physical body.

 

  Amen.

 

  So he even walked through a wall.

 

  Yeah.

 

  With that body. He had a physical body that people could touch, but there’s something different about its physicality.

 

  Yeah.

 

  So he could actually walk through a wall and before he went to the cross there’s no mention of him walking through a wall.

 

  Amen.

 

  But here he had this physical body that you could touch.

 

  Right. It was a glorified body, but it was also a physical body. And he told Thomas, Thomas wasn’t there the first time. Jesus shows up, he walks in the room while the doors are closed, and he shows up and the disciples are all kind of marveling. And Thomas wasn’t there and he didn’t believe. And so the next time he shows up, he walks through the wall and Thomas said, “I won’t believe it unless I put my finger in his hand and my hand in his side.” And Jesus said, “Thomas, put your finger in my hand and put your hand in my side and be not faithless, but believe it.”

 

  And in heaven we’ll be able to do what Thomas did. When you get to heaven, you’ll actually be able to see.

 

  Jesus.

 

  See Jesus.

 

  Resurrected physical and spiritual body.

 

  Amen.

 

  Amen. There’s a story I’d love to tell it. I don’t have time to tell it. I’d have to tell it maybe on tomorrow’s broadcast if we have time. But it’s R. W. Schambach used to have this saying, “You don’t have any problem. All you need is faith in God.” And people’d get mad. But R.W. told how he got that story years ago, I was in a meeting at Lester Sumrall’s church and R.W. was preaching and he said one of these guys that had supported him a lot and really helped him in some of his big revivals was a Catholic guy. And he was dying in the hospital and they gave him his last rights basically. And the priest in black walked out the door and then the priest in white, he said, walked through the wall and said, “You don’t have any problem. All you need is faith in God.” And Jesus raised him up off of his deathbed and he lived for many, many years and supported the gospel.
