Possessing Our Destiny Transcript

You have authority over the devil. Amen. The miracles that Jesus did, Jesus did as a man anointed by the Holy Spirit. Praise God. And when you begin to understand that, it leaves you without excuse. Because you’ve been anointed by God to complete a destiny that He has prepared for you. But it takes the Holy Spirit to do it. Praise the Lord, friends. We’re moving into a live teaching where we’re talking about possessing our destiny through our relationship with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “It’s expedient for you that I leave, because if I don’t go away, then the Holy Spirit is not going to come to you. But if I leave, I’m gonna send him to you. And when he’s come, he’s got a job to do, both in the world, and in the church.” So open your heart and receive God’s good word today. Blessings. So we’ve been teaching on possessing our destiny. And we began by talking about how our destiny is in our creator. When God created us, He created us with purpose. He created us with authority. He blessed us, praise God. And not only did He give us a purpose, and He gave us authority, and He blessed us. But He gave us something to accomplish, what He called us to do. And then He looked at it all and He said, “It’s very good.” For us, it begins with our relationship with Jesus. We enter our destiny. The Bible says in Ephesians 1:5, that He predestined us to the adoption of sons or children according to the good pleasure of His will. So God has a good desire for you. Amen. Now you have to believe it to receive it. Amen. So when you believe Jesus, you enter into it. Today we’re gonna talk about the value of the Holy Spirit, and how the Holy Spirit helps us fulfill our destiny. I want you to open your Bible to John chapter 16. John 16, we’ll start reading in verse seven. Jesus said, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it’s expedient. It is very necessary for you that I go away, for if I don’t go away, that Comforter, the Paraclete, the one called aside, alongside, the helper, your advocate, the Holy Spirit will not come to you. But if I depart, I will send Him to you.” Jesus, in John 14, 15 and 16 was preparing His disciples for His departure. And He primarily talked about two things. Number one, He talked about the coming ministry of the Holy Spirit. Number two, He talked about our authority in Christ. Inevitably, that’s two things that have been left out of many churches. Teaching on our authority in Christ, and teaching on the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit. But when you get to understand those things, I guarantee you, it will change the way you live your life. And so here He says, it’s very necessary for you. Jesus needed the Holy Spirit to do what His father called Him to do. Before Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, and the Holy Spirit came on Him, how many miracles did He do? How many sick people did He heal? How many demons did He cast out? How many dead people did He raise from the dead? But when the Holy Spirit came on Him, guess what? Immediately He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And Jesus overcame the devil. You can read about it in Matthew four and Luke four. Jesus overcame the devil as a man anointed by the Holy Spirit. Jesus overcame the devil just like you and I overcome the devil. See, a lot of people don’t realize this, but after Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan, He was identifying with humanity. God spoke from heaven, said, “This is my beloved son, in whom I’m well pleased. When you’re baptized, you’re identifying with Him.” But He was identifying with humanity. God said, “I’m well pleased.” And He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He overcame the devil in every realm, but He did it by the power of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Word of God. And guess what? We can overcome the devil by the power of the Holy Spirit and by the power of the Word of God. The devil can’t make you do one thing as a believer. When you receive Jesus, you enter into that divine destiny. But it takes the power of the Holy Spirit. He says, “Very necessary for you that I go away.” Now, when He’s come, what’s His ministry? First of all, He talks about what He will do in the world. He will convict the world. He will reprove the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. And then Jesus explains that you have to be convicted by the Holy Spirit before you can be born of the Spirit. Born again. And he explains conviction. He says He’s gonna convict them of sin because “They believe not on me.” The greatest sin is not believing on Jesus. Because if you don’t believe on Jesus, He can’t do anything about all the other sins, plural, in your life. He says He’ll convict them of righteousness because I go unto my father. What He’s saying is He’ll convict the world that Jesus is the righteousness of God, and Jesus made righteousness available to every person when He died and rose again. He says, of judgment. Why? Because the prince of this world is judged. The Holy Spirit will convict us of the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the defeat of the devil. The devil absolutely has no power over the believer except deception. And if you can break his deception, you can break his power. Amen. So take authority over the work of the devil and begin to, He says, the prince of the world’s already being judged. Hallelujah! The disciples came to Jesus after he gave them authority to heal the sick and over all devils, and they said, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us through your name.” He said, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning.” But don’t rejoice in this. Rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Rejoice because you have a relationship with God. Because it’s a relationship with God that makes it all work. So He came to convict the world. That’s primarily His ministry in the world. He’ll do those things in the church, but that’s not His primary ministry in the church. His primary ministry in the church is to show you what God has for you. Because if you figure out what God has for you, you’re gonna do some damage to the devil’s kingdom. And so He goes on to say this in verse 12. Notice this in verse 12. He said, “I have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them unless you’re born again, you cannot understand or grasp the things that God really has for you.” The Bible says that eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor is entered into the heart of man, the things that God has revealed to those that love Him, but He reveals them to us by the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah. So He says, “I got a lot of things to tell you, but you can’t grasp ’em, you can’t understand ’em.” However, when he, the spirit of truth has come, what is the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer? Verse 13, he will guide you into all truth. The Holy Spirit will guide you, number one, into the truth of the Word of God. In John 14:26, Jesus said, “When the Holy Spirit comes, he’s going to bring to your remembrance what I said to you.” The Holy Spirit’s gonna make the word come alive to you. He says, then this in John 15:26, “He will testify of me.” So the Holy Spirit will teach you the truths of the Word of God, guide you into the Word of God. And he also will teach you the truth of Jesus. He will testify of Jesus. He’ll guide you into all truth. For he will not speak of himself, but whatever he hear, he will speak. Notice this in the last part of verse 13, “And he will show you things to come.” It didn’t say he’d show you everything, but he will show you things to come. The Holy Spirit gives us revelation. And he shows us things to come. I remember when we were here, we’d been here a year or two, and I was walking around Bear Creek Park, and I was asking the Lord, “Where’s our church gonna be?” And He’s like, “That’s for me to know and you not to know.” He’s like, “Loss in faith is a journey. Enjoy the trip.” Hallelujah. And it wasn’t until we were here eight years that we bought our first property, then we were here nine years, before we moved into it. But praise God, the Holy Spirit reveals things to come. He just said, “Hey, face the journey. Keep walking with me. It’s not for you to know right now.” Praise God. I went to Kit Carson, Colorado in 1988, when we graduated from Bible school in 15 months, we had a church completely paid for in cash. It was like a miracle. Hallelujah. But this is what, we were here now, it was interesting time. Day lease for eight or nine years and set up and tear down every week and do all this work, and you know. But after we were in the church building program, Aaron was back between his Masters, the two years of getting his Masters. And Peter was back between his freshman and sophomore year at Princeton. And they both worked for me that summer. I was paying them $10 an hour. And they were actually accomplishing more than most people that I was paying $30 an hour. And I was just like, but I was thanking God, because I was so busy building out that church, that I was thanking God my kids were already in college. Because I wouldn’t have the time with them that I needed. So I thank God. Did you know what? And if you look at, they’ll show a picture of me here, when I was married, but I was looking not long ago, I saw a picture of Carrie and Mike Pickett when I did their wedding and helped with their wedding. And my hair was black as it could be, but I built two churches in. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. But my great-grandfather, my grandmother, Ruby, on my dad’s side, Purdue, her dad, Oliver Thompson, in his 90s, my great-grandfather would hold me in his arms and he would hold the Bible like this and hold me over here. And he would read to me. He’d have a magnifying glass and read the scriptures to me. And I adored my grandfather, my great-grandfather. He had a head full of white hair. Had more hair than I do right now, and he was over 90 years old. Praise God. I thank God. Amen. Friends, I’m so glad that you’ve been watching today. We’ve been sharing on possessing our destiny. We have a lot more of this teaching available. It’s on our website, it’s free of charge, downloadable audio, downloadable video. So go there to our website at CharisChristianCenter.com and take advantage of this and many other teachings. Blessings. The Word will produce freedom in your life. Psalm 1:38 verse two says, “I magnified my word above all of my name.” Thank God His word is magnified. Praise God. When you honor the word, you honor God. When you honor the Word, you honor Christ. You need to let the Word of God be the absolute standard of truth. Praise God. But the Holy Spirit, he will show you what you need to know, when you need to know it. He don’t show you everything. But he’ll show you some things. So he guides us. He shows us things to come. Notice this in verse 14. “He will glorify me for he will receive of mine and show it unto you.” He takes the things that God has for you, that Christ has for you. He reveals them to you. And when you walk in, it brings glory to God. All things the Father has are mine, therefore, I said, “He’ll take a mine and show it to you a little while, and you’ll not see me.” I’m gonna leave. And again, a little while and you’ll see me. I’m gonna come back. Because I go to the Father. Praise God. Jesus did exactly what he said. So the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Holy Spirit gives us in the church revelation. How many of you’re glad that we get revelation from the Spirit of God? Romans 8:14 says, “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. They are the children of God.” Hallelujah. The Spirit leads us into freedom. The Spirit leads us into our authority and our divine rights and privileges in Christ. The Spirit leads us to the reality that we are sons and daughters of God. Hallelujah. You need to relish that. Hallelujah. What’s another thing the Holy Spirit does? He gives us power. He gives us power. Jesus said, “You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit comes on you.” Acts 1:8. “And you’ll be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, all the uttermost parts of the Earth.” Praise God for the power of the Holy Spirit. Corinthians 1:12, verse four says, there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit. Then He tells us in verse eight through 10, what those gifts are. There’s three gifts of revelation, three gifts of power, and three gifts of inspiration. Three gifts that speak. Hallelujah. Thank God for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, for the power of God. But not only does he give us power, he gives us ability. We have the exact same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. We have an anointing of truth. We have an anointing of life. Did you know what you have? If you’re born again, you have as much ability as any other believer on the planet to live the Christian life. The devil can’t make you do one thing. Praise God. You’re born of God. Whoever is born of God does not sin. John 1:3. Now, how many of you sinned since you’ve been born again? I’m gonna lift both my hand. See, most people don’t understand what that scripture’s talking about. But that scripture is talking about who you are in the spirit. And if you understand about 90% of the New Testament is written with a focus of who you are in the Spirit. And when you understand it from the position of the Spirit, it will change how you walk in the flesh. Hallelujah. So get a revelation of who you are in the Spirit. It’ll change how you walk in the flesh. Amen. So the Holy Spirit gives us revelation, the Holy Spirit gives us power. But here’s what I really want to get to today. The Holy Spirit works through desire and he gives us direction. So open your Bible to Psalm chapter 37. Let’s look at Psalm chapter 37, and we’ll begin reading in verse three. “Trust in the Lord and do good. So shall you dwell in the land and verily you shall be fed.” There’s four words that I want you to get from this portion of scripture. Number one, trust. Believe. Have confidence, have assurance. Faith changes everything. The Bible says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God. For he who comes to God must believe, number one that he is, and number two, that he rewards those who diligently seek Him.” Both. You gotta believe ’em both. How many of you believe that God is? Well, the devils believe that. How many of you believe that he’s a good God and He rewards those who diligently seek Him? Half the church doesn’t even believe that. Hallelujah. You gotta believe both! It takes faith to please God. Hebrews 11:6. Trust. Have confidence. Jesus said, “Have faith in God.” Did you know if you’re born again, you have the exact same faith as Jesus Christ? And if you begin to understand that you, as a believer, as a born again person, you do not have a faith problem. You have an unbelief problem. ‘Cause you’re wrapping your brain around the wrong information. But you don’t have a faith problem. The disciples came to Jesus. Luke 17 said, “Increase our faith.” Jesus said, “If you had faith.” If you had faith, as a grain of mustard seed, you’d say to the sycamine tree, “Be thou plucked up and planted in the sea.” And it would obey you. He says, “Which of you has a servant plowing, or feeding cattle when he comes in from the field?” I understand this. You tell that servant, go clean yourself up, make your dinner and then come fix mine. No, we didn’t have all these labor laws. He said, “No, you say, go fix my dinner. Clean this mess up. When you’re done, you can go home and take care of yourself.” Do you thank that servant because he did what he was told to do? No, you expected it. You expected your servant to work for you. He said, “You expect your faith to work for you.” Expect your faith to work for you. You don’t need an increase of faith. You need to increase the operation of the faith that you were given when you were born again, but your faith will do what you tell it to do. Your faith is your servant. You understand that? Hallelujah. Trust. Trust in the Lord. For verily, you will dwell in the land and you will be fed. I love Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. Lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him. He will direct your path. I love Hebrews 11:11. Through faith, Sarah also herself received strength to conceive what, a child, and deliver this child, when she was past age. You as a believer, it wasn’t Abraham’s faith alone, it was Sarah’s faith. But she received strength to conceive the seed, right? It takes strength to conceive the seed of the Word of God. A lot of people saying, “I have faith, I have faith, I have faith, I have faith.” But a lot of people that are saying that they have faith are really operating in hope. Because they know that there’s a promise out there somewhere and maybe God will, but they really don’t know that it’s yours. But the difference between hope and faith is faith, you know on the inside, right? You already got it. You already see it. You’re already convicted of the reality of something that you don’t see in the outward realm before it actually comes to pass. And a lot of people are talking about faith, but they’re not really operating in it. There’s a difference in talking about faith and operating in it. So you have the exact same faith that Jesus, but if you turn it loose, it’ll take you places. Woo, glory. Hey, I set out believing some things when I was a young man. And I’m believing some things today. In fact, I’m believing today for far more than I’ve ever believed God for in my entire life. I am believing God. Amen. Now, I get challenged now and again. But I gotta rearrange my brain and keep praying in the Holy Ghost and keep moving forward in what God has for me. Trust in the Lord. For verily, you will dwell in the land and be fed. Delight. Look at verse four. The second word, “trust,” number one. Two, “delight.” Delight yourself also in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Did you know God works with your desire? Now, I’m not talking about the desire of your flesh. I’m not talking about the desire of the outward man. Ephesians 2:1-3, or verse four, talk about the outward man, his desire before you were saved. I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about the desire of your spiritual man. There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives him understanding. You take pleasure in Him. You delight yourself in the Lord. I love this verse in John 15:7. Two requirements to get every prayer answered. If you abide in me, and my word abides in you, you’ll ask whatever you want. How many times Jesus come to people and they say, “Lord, he say, what do you want? According to your faith?” Right? What do you want? What do you want? I’m not talking about your flesh, I’m talking about our spirit. See, some people are afraid to sell out to God. Because some people think, “Hey, if I sell out to God, I’m gonna have to go to some third world country.” And you know what? If you sell out to God, and He takes you to a third world country to do something for Him, you’re gonna be so excited about it. Hallelujah. Amen. Praise God. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He’ll give you the desire of your heart, of your spirit, man. Hallelujah. He works with your desire. He works on your, delight yourself. Take pleasure in Him. The Lord takes pleasure in you. Delight yourself. Now look at the next word, in verse three. “Commit your way unto the Lord. Trust him also, and he’ll bring it to pass.” Commit. Commit. Do you know what it means to be totally committed to God? Totally committed. I’m not talking about being half-hearted. I’m talking about completely committed to Jesus. See Proverbs 16:3, I love this verse. It says, “Commit your way unto the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.” Man, if you sell out to God, you’ll begin to think the right thoughts. Commit your way. Your thoughts will be established. Friends, we’ve been sharing about possessing our destiny through our relationship with the Holy Spirit.
