Surrendering to God’s Order in Times of Uncertainty

Surrendering to God’s order in times of uncertainty isn’t hard if you understand He is always good.

John 10:10 says the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.

Many people have a hard time surrendering to God because life’s circumstances have painted a bad picture of what a father looks like. Maybe you had a father who was never there, maybe your dad passed away when you were young, or maybe your father abused you. Whatever the case, God is not like an earthly father, He is only love (1 John 4:8) and he only has good things in store for you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [a]direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6 is a key that unlocks confusion when we are walking through uncharted territory. Trust in the Lord and don’t try to figure it all out! The word “acknowledge” in this scripture means “to know.” God will lead you if you desire to get to know Him. No matter how crazy life gets, you keep your eyes on Jesus and He will lead you into what He has prepared for you.

God is a God of order and not confusion. He doesn’t want you living aimlessly and confused about the plan He has for your life.

1 Corinthians 14:33, For God is not the author of confusion (disorder) but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

When you feel confused and life feels chaotic, that will be your cue to take a step back and readjust your focus on God and His Word.

Here are 5 practical things you can do from the Word of God when life feels uncertain:

  1. Overcome evil with Good.
Romans 12:21 – Don’t try to figure out why people have done bad things to you. That only leads to you being confused. The short answer is that there is a devil out there who motivates people. Instead of entering that confusion, purposefully do good to all people.
  2. Submit to God and resist the devil and he will flee.
James 4:7 – When you are submitting to God and acknowledging Him in all your ways, you are allowing Him to guide you. Just like a father walks his daughter down the aisle to her husband, the Lord will lead you right into what He has prepared for you.
  3. Honor people in authority.
1 Peter 2:17 – You will never be in a place of authority until you know how to be under authority. We have to honor our leaders. Whether they are your boss, pastor, or father, you don’t have to agree with someone to honor them.
  4. Be thankful in all things.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be thankful IN all things. For this is God’s will for us! Being thankful strengthens you to stand while your faith carries you through to victory! Spend some time praising God!
  5. Seek God and His righteousness and all things will be added.
Matthew 6:33 – Last but not least, seek God with the intent to find out your place of righteousness in Christ Jesus. When you know you are righteous based on what Jesus did for you, you no longer feel like you are unworthy to receive all God has for you.

Bible Verses about God’s plan and timing:

Ecclesiastes 3:11 – He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Romans 5:6 – For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Psalm 145:15-16 – The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Galatians 6:9 – And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

All throughout the Bible we see many stories of people who surrendered to God in times of uncertainty. If you want your story to be worth telling, don’t grow weary in well doing because in due time you will reap if you don’t quit!
