The Commanded Blessing Transcript
Friends, it’s great to have you with us today. We’re gonna be talking about honor, and we’re actually gonna be talking about honoring those who God wants you to honor and how that will work out for good and blessing in your own life. Don’t miss this broadcast because you can go past a point of no return where things work against you if you don’t honor those who God called you to. Friends, it’s so good to have you today, and I’m so glad that Aaron’s with us and we’re sharing about honor. And this is a lesson, actually, that you taught the youth, and actually some of the youth had been struggling with this with their families for years. And when you shared this, they just had amazing transformation. And you actually shared it in the broadcast early or this week on the subject of honor, but that Jesus wants to transform your life and one way you can see Jesus transform your life, you know, the scripture says in 1 Samuel 2:30, God spoke to Samuel and said, he who honors Me, I will honor. And so when we honor God, did you know what, God’s gonna honor us?
And honor is something that has to be taught as well, and some people just haven’t really been taught.
Pastor Lawson Right.
You know, I was talking to a gentleman here at our church. He’s newer to the church, but he’s in the military. He just moved here from Japan. He was serving there at a military base in Japan. But he just said, this is something that is taught in the military.
Yes.
And he was really excited when I told him I was teaching it, you know, from a spiritual perspective to our youth. And he was just very excited. You know, here our ministry is based here in Colorado Springs, which there’s a lot of military influence here. You know, the Air Force Academy is here, two Air Force bases, NORAD, our missile defense system, the Space Force now has people here and the Fort Carson, a very large army. So we have a lot of military influence and, you know, several of these people come to our church and, but, so they understand the practical side of it. But it’s a very spiritual thing too, as well. And the Bible actually, there’s a commandment, the very first commandment with promise.
Yes.
You know, so Paul, the Apostle Paul realized how important this honor system is. And he even brought out, this is the first commandment, it’s the commandment mentioned in the Ten Commandments and Exodus.
Right.
But he mentioned this is the first commandment with promise.
Yes.
And, I love those commandments, those instructions that have a promise attached. Because when there’s that promise attached, you look at that promise.
Right.
And this promise for honor, it is a great, great promise. You know, I’d like to ask this question. How many of you would like to live longer?
Yes.
To increase the days of your life. How many of you like to have a good life?
Yes.
That it may be well with you while honor is part of that.
Yes.
That is part of that system.
Yes.
Ephesians 6, I’m wanna read verses one through four. This is where Paul writes about this. He says, “Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” So children are to obey their parents. When I taught this to the youth, I said, who here is still a child? You know, a few of ’em raise their hands. I said, really? You know, in the Jewish tradition, when you turn 13, you enter adult society, you’re to be treated as an adult, you’re gonna have responsibilities. So I said, I want to treat you all as adults.
Right.
And as kids, you’re to obey your parents, but by the time you hit 13, you should be able to obey God yourself.
Right.
And, if you can’t obey God yourself, then you’re gonna keep, you know, you’ll keep being treated as a child.
Right.
And you shouldn’t be a little rebellious kid. And you know, a few of ’em, I told ’em, you need to pay attention I’m sharing, and, you know, put away your cell phones. I’m gonna share a short, tight message. I want you to get some things,
Right.
but one time, they were being extra squirrely. And I said, I wanna have a dodge ball here, and if you’re not paying attention, I’m gonna throw it at you. They weren’t sure if I was being serious or not. But, you know, a kid, he got hit pretty good and they all started paying attention. And that was a new testament form of application of an Old Testament Scripture. In the Old Testament said,
It might be the Old Testament.
if you’re rebellious, you’re to get stoned. I had a, you know, cushion stone to throw at, you know, some slightly rebellious kids. But they all paid attention there. But this, you know, this, this commandment is true for everyone to honor your father and your mother. So honor is something that you don’t grow out of.
Yeah.
That you’re too high and mighty for you. You always need to be honoring people in your life, you know, people in your family, your father, your mother, you know, your spouse, even your children. But it says, “This is the first commandment with promise,” honor is so important. It is God’s key to success. And this is the promise. And I know when there is a great promise, it’s probably because it’s not always easy to follow that commandment.
Right.
You Know, and it’s not always easy to be a person of honor. But when you do it, man, there is great promise, there is great blessing. There is just supernatural grace that you can tap into. It says, “That it may be well with you.”
Yes.
That may be well with you. That’s talking about your health, about your finances, about your joy, about your job, about everything, about your life.
Yes.
It may be well with you. That is a huge all encompassing promise. And not only that, it says, “That you may live long on the Earth.”
Yes.
By tapping into God’s honor system, it actually lengthens your days.
Yes.
You know, I had a prophecy for a church that we would be known, that there would be, that we would have a large number of centenarians, people who live over 100 years.
Amen.
And, this is part of it, to tap into God’s honor system. And he goes on,
Aaron,
Uh-huh.
before you say any more about that, you know, there was a man who was really an amazing teacher. And I don’t agree with everything he taught, but I agree with almost everything he taught. But he was really kind of a man before his time. His name was E.W. Kenyon. And he actually pastored a church. And for years and years, people didn’t die. He just, there was so much of the life of God being imparted to people as he taught the Word of God. And then he told his board, he said, well, at a certain time, you’re gonna have to get a new pastor. They said, oh no, we don’t want a new pastor. They said, “Why are we gonna need to get a new pastor? We love you. We want you.” He says, “’cause I’m gonna go home and be with the Lord.” And he actually told his wife and daughter the day he went home to be with the Lord, he said, “Now I’m eating breakfast.” He said, “I get done and I’m gonna go sit down in my chair and I’m gonna go home, be the Lord. So don’t worry about me. I’m gonna see Jesus.” And he ate his meal, and he went in and sat down in his chair. Might’ve been lunch, but he went down and sat in his chair and he went to be the Lord. He was that close to God. He just knew God, you know, and I believe, and he lived a good, long, healthy, strong life. And I’m believing to live a good, long, healthy, strong life. You know, years ago we had a man in our church, and he had been diagnosed with cancer. They gave him less than 2% chance to live. And he’d had, you know, I think one of his kidneys removed and they didn’t, but they still only gave him 2% chance of living. And he had cancer. And we were out visiting him, in Southern California, and his wife. And I went running that morning. I was 49 years old on the beach. And when I went running, you know, I was praying for that man. And I, the Lord told me, you tell that man, and this is before he got any tests or different things. He said, you tell that man that they’re gonna test him and he’s gonna be cancer free. And he’s got 25 more years of life and health and strength. And so that evening we ate dinner at, and he hadn’t got any test results, hadn’t done anything. He just had that. And so I prayed, I prayed at the meal. And then I told him while we were eating dinner, I said, now the Lord spoke to me today and said to tell you that you have 25 more years of life and health and strength. His name was Tom. And he received the word, so on and so forth. And then we ate dinner. But I was running in like, you know, at the same time when I was running on the beach. And I told the Lord, I said, Lord, I would like to have give me 40 more years of preaching the gospel, 40 more years of life and health and preaching the gospel. I’m actually believing to live longer than that. But I was 49 and asked the Lord for 40. And I believe the Lord said yes. And you know, later that year, the devil tried to kill me. But Jesus preserved my life. It was supernatural. And you know, I’m actually, as we teach this broadcast, I’m 60 years old, but I’m very healthy. In fact, I had, somebody saw him the other day. They said, “You look healthier than you did when we came to your church.” And that was about 10 years ago. And I feel better. I, and I believe, but I’m believing that I’ll be preaching the gospel till I’m 89, actually believing till 90. Now I upped it a year. ’cause one of my friends told me something not good. And I love him, but I just, I just said, no, I’m gonna kick that up a year, I believe for 90. 90 years of health and strength and preaching the gospel, gimme 40 more than now. 41, Okay? So that’s what I’m believing for, my roles will change in the ministry, but I’m believing I get it.
So honor. Yeah, honor.
But anyway, I gotta tell the rest of the story. That man later came back to our church in Colorado Springs and I asked him, ’cause he went and got tested. And when he got the test, they said, you’re cancer free. You’re free. Don’t worry about it. I said, “How old are you?” He said, “64.” That would make him 89, 25 more years of health and strength. That’s what I ask God for myself. I believe God gave me that word for him. And I believe God answered my word. So you can believe God to live a good, long, healthy, strong life. And it begins with this honor. So go ahead. Share.
So it’s awesome to see that, you know, even Paul brings out, that’s the first commandment with promise.
Amen.
And it’s a great promise.
Yes.
That, it may be well with you. And you may live long on Earth. Just a day or two ago, there’s a very famous flute professor who passed away, Walfrid Kujala. He played for like 50 years, piccolo in the Chicago Symphony. He taught at Northwestern. I actually auditioned for him. I auditioned two places for my doctorate, at Rice University and at Northwestern. So I got to meet him. It was his very last audition he was ever doing at Northwestern. He was retiring. The very next year. So, but he was still the professor and he was in his eighties when I got to meet him and play for him. But he just passed away. He was just a few days shy of a hundred.
Yes.
But, I saw a lot of my friends studied with him, and they just said how kind he was, how honoring he was. And so I remember meeting him, very special person.
Yeah.
And you know, it’s funny, he played for 50 years piccolo in the Chicago Symphony. Never wore earplugs, and
That’s a miracle.
You know, I think, it’s a miracle he could still hear
Hear.
at that point. But, he was a, you know, very influential person. But I know like I think he’s a believer and, but just to live, to be a hundred, you know, it’s pretty awesome.
Yeah.
“That it may be well with you and you may live long on the Earth.”
Yes.
So, man, that’s a tremendous commandment with promise. And, you know, I believe to, for it to be well with you. You know, that means
Yeah.
that’s all encompassing. I think that includes your health and just your finances,
Yeah.
your quality of life,
A lot of promise.
you know, God wants you to have a great life. You know, some people think, man, if I honor God, I’m just gonna be miserable, and-
No, I’m gonna live a good life,
Man, the best life is to live for God. So.
Amen.
You know, and just one more scripture attached to this. It talks about fathers in Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and the admonition of the Lord.”
Amen. The teaching and the care.
Yeah, and one of the greatest things you can do for your kids, a lot of people want to, you know, get ’em in the best schools, you know, get your kids in the best sports programs. But you need to bring your kids up in the training and the admonition of the Lord.
Amen. The warning and the teaching of the Lord. And we do need to warn ’em about evil and teach them about the good, you know, you overcome evil with good. We’re gonna be back after a short break. And you know what? We have a great website. We got all this and much more free of charge there. So check that out sometime. Friends, I hope you’ve been enjoying this teaching. I certainly have enjoyed teaching with my son, Aaron, from his notes, on honor that he taught in our youth. But I’m telling you, this is good for everybody in the body of Christ. And this is some of the greatest teaching, really, from my son, Aaron, that I’ve ever heard on the subject of honor. So you can download this, free of charge on our website. Blessings.
I’ve been redeemed from the curse, so that means I’m redeemed from death, I’m redeemed from slavery. I’m redeemed from sickness and I’m redeemed from poverty. And I just am so thankful that to be here, to learn these kind of things, because I’ve never been taught this before.
Friends, I’m so glad that you tuned in. We’re so glad to have you with us on the broadcast. And so happy to be sharing the Word of life. You know, the Word has changed our life and the Word gives us life. And not only in a physical sense, but in a, you know, in a spiritual sense, but also in a physical sense. Now, we were sharing, I was sharing some of my goals. I want to qualify that because I believe Jesus is coming soon. But if Jesus there, I’m gonna live a good, long, healthy, strong life.
We’ve been talking about honor,
Amen.
you know, that’s God’s key to success. And one thing I’ve seen with you is that you really honor the Word, we’ve been talking about honoring God, about honoring, you know, key relationships in our life. Just honoring just being a person of honor, being a vessel of honor. But you know, you talk about the Word a lot and
Yeah.
honoring the Word, you know, if you love Jesus, you’re gonna love the Word of God. Some people say they love Jesus, but they, you know, don’t care about what the Bible says. They don’t receive instruction for the Bible, you know, your relationship with Jesus is gonna be reflected in your relationship with His Word.
Amen. Absolutely.
And yeah.
You know, you can connect directly your love for the Lord and your love for the Word. And you know what, if you want God, you know, to show up in your life and show up big, that’s directly connected to your relationship with the Word, our attitude towards the Word determines the place that God holds in our daily life. So keep a good attitude.
And I know a lot of people like watching this broadcast. You know, we have a local church here in Colorado Springs. A lot of people really connect with our ministry, with our television ministry, with the church, because we really preach the Word of God here. So people
Amen.
that’s one, you know, characteristic I see with people who partner with us, who come to church here, who connect with us through our television ministries. They really have a love for the Word of God. And something I’ve seen with my dad too, different ministers, different pastors carry certain anointings. And when people really tap into relationship there, that anointing starts flowing in their lives. So,
Amen.
two things I think my dad is really anointed to do, and I see people who’ve been here for a long period of time. There’s an anointing of entrepreneurship,
Right.
And just financial growth, just supernatural financial growth and also an anointing for strong families.
Yes.
And I just, you know, if that’s something that you want to grow and tap into, I’d encourage you to keep connecting, keep watching our broadcast. You know, some of you might have the ability to move. We’ve actually had a number of families who’ve moved here to Colorado Springs just to connect with you.
From around the world.
At the church, you know, we have great teaching, great worship ministry, great children, great youth programs. And I just think it’s a great place to grow. But I’ve seen people who’ve been connected and it’s just awesome to see what God’s done in their life through business,
Right.
Through that anointing with financial growth, but also just strong families, just raise, just having strong, healthy, vibrant families.
Amen.
And, kind of going along with that lines of entrepreneurship, something my dad has taught me in the realm of business is you wanna stay away from bad trades.
Yeah.
You know, God gives us honor, but you don’t wanna trade your honor away for, ugh, something that’s just worthless, that’s gonna just devalue.
Yes.
My dad actually taught me when I was, I remember being five years old, learning what assets and liabilities were. And you taught me to, you know, you wanna go for assets.
Amen.
’cause those things hold their value. They increase in value. Liabilities go down in value.
Aaron,
You wanna stay away from bad trades.
I had this banker, I banked with the largest, one of the two largest cattle lending industries banks in the United States of America. It was National Livestock after a period of years in Oklahoma City. And I had to fill out a financial statement, you know, every year for them. And so I was filling it out, one year, I borrowed a few million dollars from him. So anyway, the banker talked to me one time, he was looking at my financial statement, right, your assets, your liabilities. He said, “You hate depreciation? No, tell, I’m like, I absolutely hate depreciation, “I can tell it by looking at your, you know, assets and liabilities because you almost own nothing that depreciates. And almost everything you own is stuff that appreciates.” And I remember when I moved into this house in Colorado Springs, the second house, right after we’d been here 11 years, I moved into, or 10 years, I moved into the house. I told him, listen, in the next 10 years, I’ll make a million dollars add to my net worth. I actually made a lot more than that. And I said, I won’t even break a sweat to do it. I probably broke a sweat a few times, but not over labor enough for that business. But I actually made a lot more money than that in the next 10 years. But you know what, a lot of times you get what you say, you get what you believe for. And we’ve had a lot of people that come to our church become millionaires, multimillionaires, the people that started with this, helping with this church. They actually gave me a testimony the other day and somebody had complained about something I said about money. But anyway, they said, “Pastor Lawson, when you came here, we were drowning in debt. But you talked to us and you encouraged us, you encouraged us to start a savings account.” And they had said we had credit card debt, we had all kinds of debt. They said, we actually paid off our house the other day. And then they came to church and told me, they said, and we actually have $50,000 in our savings now. And they said, it’s a complete miracle. And we never would’ve got there if you wouldn’t have encouraged us and taught us the scripture. We need to teach people what the Bible says about money. It will lead to great blessing in their life.
And just going along with our message on “Honor: God’s Key to Success,” I wanna encourage you to stay away from bad trades. Don’t trade your honor for offense.
Yes.
It’s a terrible, terrible trade. And I, you know, I’ve seen people, you know that do that. They trade honor for offense. It’s something that’s happened in scripture. Hebrews 12:14-17 actually talks about trading honor for offense. You don’t wanna do this. So Hebrews 12, we’re gonna read here in verses 14 through 17, it says, “Pursue peace with all people.”
Yes.
So that means just try to stay out of strive, try to stay out of gossip. Try to stay out of discontention. You know, this is actually, the scripture says this is one thing that God hates is people who just sow discord among the brethren.
Yes. I say He hates that, in the book of Proverbs.
So I’m, I wanna-
It’s the seventh thing. He said, these six things the Lord hates. The seventh is an abomination to him. And the seventh is he that sows discord among the brethren. And if you’re sowing discord in the church, you are an abomination to God. So repent and get your heart right with God right now.
Amen. And we need to be pursuing peace with all people.
Yes. I should.
“Pursue peace and holiness without which no one will see the Lord looking carefully, lest anyone fall short of the grace of God.” So God’s grace is given to us freely, but you can actually fall short of it.
Amen.
By just being in discord and strife and contention all the time. And it says, “lust, any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble. And by this many become defiled.”
Yes.
So this is a strong warning to the church here
Yes.
in Hebrews 12:14, to stay away from bitterness, to stay away from that.
Yes.
Just that heart of bitterness.
It’s very strong.
And you know, verse 16, this is what I’m talking about, about don’t trade honor for offense. Verse 16, this is a very important lesson here, an important example from scripture said, “Lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau.” So how do you know the story of Esau? Esau was brother of Jacob. They’re the two sons of Isaac. Abraham, Isaac and then Jacob. Isaac had Esau, and Esau was actually the firstborn. So he actually had a greater blessing, a greater birthright, and Jacob, but it says Esau is actually compared to a fornicator or a profane person. And he’s called this because he made a bad trade.
Yes.
He traded like his birthright, his blessing, his honor.
He didn’t value what
God had given him.
God have given him. Yes.
And sometimes people has, sometimes God has given great opportunity, great talent, great position, great relationships to people who will trade that away, who don’t value it, he’ll just trade it away for
Yes.
for a bowl of soup, something so unvaluable.
Mm.
They’ll just throw it away. So that might be a word for someone right here. You might be thinking about throwing away your marriage, throwing away where you’re called to go to church, throwing away a job that God has really called you to be at.
It’s a work.
Don’t throw it away. You need to hear from God.
Yeah.
If he’s called you into a certain relationship, a place of blessing, a place where you are, you know, you’re called to be. It’s an honor thing. You don’t want to throw that away for nothing.
Someone is listening right now, and you’ve been given a great position of honor and authority in a local church body. And you’re actually thinking about discarding that relationship because you’ve been offended and you’re offended over the wrong thing. And you need to get your heart got with, right now, with God. You need to repent right now because you are opening the door to great destruction that’s gonna happen in your life and in your family. And you don’t want to open that door. So turn your heart to God right now. I know that word I gave was very strong, but God is speaking to someone right now. He’s speaking to you, and he’s calling you to turn your heart away from this, to turn your heart away from this. Do not sow discord. Do not sow problems. Turn your heart and God will, in turn, you will reap blessing instead of judgment.
So it says “Esau,” it said, “for one morsel of food sold his birthright.”
Yes.
So he made a terrible trade and says, “For you know, that afterward when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected for, he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.”
Yes.
So.
He wanted it, but he could not get it. Do you know sometimes you can go past the point of no return and you don’t want to go there.
And you don’t wanna miss these doors of opportunity that God has for you. You know, some people actually in scripture miss their time of visitation.
Yes.
They miss their, you know, some people miss the time of visitation. They miss Jesus as their Messiah. You don’t wanna miss your day of visitation. And one reason why people miss their opportunity, that place of honor, that you know, really, their road, this destiny that God has for them is because of just familiarity. They just despise things that actually God has called very in high regard.
Yes. Yes. You know, I’m usually not this firm, but I’m telling you, God is crying out to someone right now, and He’s crying out for you to turn from this, to turn from this. You know, the Bible says that, you know, God covers, love covers a multitude of sins. I understand you may have been done wrong, you probably were, but you need to let it go. And you need to let God heal you. Let God help you so that you can move forward into God, into what God has for you. And if you don’t let this go and you keep holding onto it, you are gonna reap destruction in your own life. So please see God, you know what, we have a great website. We have these teachings and many more. We’ve made ’em available free of charge and you can get it free of charge. And we’d love to have you at church sometime. God bless you. We love you.
